At 9:23 Saturday morning, the White House abruptly dismissed the press traveling with the president. Trump soon unleashed 42 posts on Truth Social in just over three hours. He shared an AI image of himself kissing Jesus on a golden crucifix, a “TRUMP 2028” campaign poster, a painting of himself as a Revolutionary War general leading soldiers into flames, and his face merged with George Washington’s under the words “250 Years.” He posted himself as Elvis in a rhinestone jumpsuit, an irony hard to miss, given that Elvis spent his final years overmedicated and isolated, surrounded by enablers who told him what he wanted to hear while his body and mind deteriorated, and died alone while the people closest to him pretended everything was fine. Then he posted a photo of himself hunched over a golf cart, looking every day of his 80 years, captioned “President Trump ages in reverse!” People who are fine do not need to prove they are fine. People who are declining do.
For weeks, Trump had insisted “radical left” vandals cut a gash in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, and Pirro charged a 67-year-old Olympic canoeist with a felony carrying ten years. But when the Interior Department turned over its documents, the truth came out. The lining had peeled because of a botched no-bid job by one of Trump’s own contractors. When reality gets too close, Donald Trump lashes out.
Trump Media launched a paid service giving hedge funds faster access to his market-moving posts before the public sees them, which senators from both parties called insider trading and an abuse of the office. He now profits directly from the chaos he posts. The more erratic the posts, the more the markets move, the more money he makes.
At 10:05 last night, the same man who spent his afternoon posting himself as Elvis and kissing Jesus announced he was calling off a military strike on Iran. That is who is making these decisions. His own aides are leaking that he is “more erratic, even by Trumpian standards,” that he seems “trapped” and “deeply frustrated,” unable to find a way out of a war with no endgame. This is not just one man’s decline. It is what every world leader, adversary and ally alike, now has to navigate. But even in his spiraling, he is showing us what he desperately does not want us to see: just how vulnerable he really is. His own prosecutor broke from him and told the truth, and he attacked her for it. That is not a man who is winning. That is a man losing control. And every crack is an opening.
