Trump orders lawsuit to BLOCK Alaska election certification

At 6:07 last night, Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis walked toward reporters waiting on the tarmac in Fort Myers, holding a gold-plated coin that turned another presidential appearance into a spectacle. Behind that distraction was something far more consequential. Trump’s Justice Department filed a lawsuit seeking to delay certification of Alaska’s Senate election if a close result could be affected by confusion between incumbent Dan Sullivan and another candidate, Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. The state’s Supreme Court had already allowed Sullivan Jr. to remain on the ballot, with steps to distinguish the candidates. Now the federal government is trying to intervene before the votes have even been counted. Asked about it, Trump did not pretend he knew nothing. He said, “I’m the one who said, ‘do it.’” This is an attack on the foundation of our democratic republic: a president personally ordering a case that could potentially block certification of a Senate election his party might lose.

That was not the only story of corruption. Vanity Fair published allegations from Matthew Cole’s new book, Princes and Thieves, about Russian military intelligence allegedly hacking Jared Kushner’s phone while he served in the first Trump White House. The account describes screenshots revealing access to foreign government funds and approximately $700 million in transfers. Four former senior administration officials told Cole they knew of no presidential authorization that would have permitted that access. Kushner said the allegations were “completely insane and never happened,” and Trump called the story false. Kushner’s lawyers said he does not know whether his phone was hacked or monitored. The unresolved question is what Russia may have collected and whether it could create leverage over someone so deeply involved in American foreign policy.

The consequences do not stop at our borders. Decisions made here can leave people elsewhere living with the damage for years. This week, the United Kingdom’s “Be Ready” campaign urged households to prepare at least three days of supplies, citing Russian hostility, Middle Eastern conflict, and cyberattacks. Most Americans want peace and care about our allies, but they rarely hear enough about what people abroad are experiencing. In eleven days, we are voting for ourselves and for people caught in the consequences of our decisions. I still believe we can show up, begin the work of rebuilding, and become a country that stands by its friends and treats others with respect.

We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better our chances of pushing back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.

I’m fighting to save our country (before it’s too late).

I’ll see you tomorrow,

Heather
