Just before 6:30 Central Time, Donald Trump walked onto the stage in Lubbock, TX, while “God Bless the USA” played. For the next hour and forty-five minutes, he repeated familiar stories, announced that he didn’t like handsome young men, and interrupted himself to wonder whether a noise outside was Iran dropping a bomb. He called this the golden age of America. But none of that could distract from the investigative report Jamie Raskin and House Judiciary Democrats released about Trump’s connections to Epstein’s trafficking ring. Drawing on survivor interviews, FBI records, and released documents, it examines accounts involving 11 women, including five who directly accuse Trump of assaults while with Epstein. Reading these accounts was difficult enough. Imagining what it must have been like for these women to watch the man they accused become president was even harder. The report also alleges efforts by the Justice Department to conceal evidence, including an allegation that Todd Blanche stopped Ghislaine Maxwell from discussing a woman who connected Trump to Epstein’s abuse. If true, the people responsible for investigating these crimes were working to protect the president instead.
Our election officials are preparing to protect our votes from possible interference by our federal government. The New York Times described training on laws restricting armed agents near polling places, preparations for attempts to seize ballots or machines, and emergency legal challenges. Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows said this was the first time they had needed this kind of scenario planning. Tens of thousands of volunteers have also trained to monitor polling places. People are stepping up. Meanwhile, Reuters reported attempted hacking behind the FEC filing-system outage; the agency confirmed the outage without publicly naming its cause. The FEC does not count votes, but losing access to new filings could leave us in the dark about the money influencing them.
I know how exhausting this is. Sometimes, sitting here night after night, I question whether I can keep going. Then I remember why I write: for the people who see what is happening and feel alone, for our country, and for the generations who will inherit it. The truth remains the truth beneath the propaganda. I hope these posts become a lasting record of how close we came to losing our democracy, and how we stood up instead. Maybe someone decades from now will recognize these warning signs earlier because we refused to look away. Above all, I want us to be able to look our children and grandchildren in the eye and know that we chose to speak out. With seven days until the midterms and thousands working to protect our voices and votes, we cannot give up now.

We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better our chances of pushing back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.
