At 9:16 on Halloween morning, Donald Trump left Mar-a-Lago with the journalists traveling with him for an undisclosed location that turned out to be his own golf club. Over the course of the day, he posted well over 100 times on Truth Social. Between endorsements for Republicans who have pledged their loyalty to him, he shared a fabricated image of Winston Churchill telling him, “Donald, you’re doing a Superb Job.” Washington and Lincoln appeared behind them, as if he had earned his place among history’s most respected leaders. We have a president who has to manufacture approval from dead leaders because he cannot earn it from living ones. Churchill helped lead Britain against Nazi Germany. Trump repeatedly praises authoritarian strongmen. The absurdity of that image was only the beginning. He also shared “Life Before Obama,” blaming our first Black president for things including Black Lives Matter, as though Americans demanding basic civil rights were evidence that our country had fallen apart.
This is racist propaganda designed to tell his voters whom to fear and blame. He posted Greenland as an enormous American aircraft carrier, treating more than 56,000 people and their sovereign home like property he could take over, even after an agreement expanding American military access while recognizing that sovereignty. Then came the most dangerous post: a cartoon depicting Islam setting nations on fire, with America next and the words “Wake up America!” Nearly two billion people reduced to a caricature of destruction, amplified by the President of the United States. This is the kind of dehumanizing propaganda that has preceded some of history’s worst violence. It makes innocent people targets. Hate has never made a country better. It weakens us, divides us, and makes us easier to control. While families were walking their children through neighborhoods collecting candy, Trump was spending his day reminding the world exactly who he is.
Now we need to take him at his word when he says, “I really want you to pretend, please, that I’m on the ballot.” He is. Every Republican who has enabled him, defended him, funded him, and refused to break with him represents him in this election. We cannot separate them from the man who mocked a disabled reporter, degraded women and people of color, incited the attack on the Capitol, and used the Department of Justice against his political enemies. His fellow Republicans, advisers, and cabinet have not stopped him. We are going to have to do it together. One vote will not undo everything, and one election will not fix our country overnight. But Tuesday can begin the long, slow process of accountability and a complete course change. Everyone who has watched another line crossed and wondered whether any of it would ever matter has a chance to answer now. We are not going to sit here and watch this happen anymore.

We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better our chances of pushing back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.
