After walking back into the White House from a weekend of golf, the President of the United States posted a grainy AI-generated video of a blue flag flying from the mast of a fishing boat, waving in the wind with the words “King Trump 2028.” It was a window into his mind after an embarrassing court defeat two days earlier, when a federal appeals court ruled he cannot tear down the White House and rebuild it as a monument to himself without Congress. The judges wrote something that cuts directly against everything he believes: “Each President is a temporary tenant, not the owner.” He has held the presidency twice, reshaped the Supreme Court, started a war, and bent entire institutions to his will. And it is not enough. It will never be enough. Because the title was never the point. He does not want to lead a democratic republic. He wants to be king.
The Wall Street Journal revealed where that hunger for power has left us. Trump has been privately floating the idea of declaring victory against Iran without achieving a nuclear deal, telling aides he would extend the ceasefire indefinitely and simply walk away. In an Axios interview, he admitted it himself: “We are only semi-negotiating with them. We are just watching.” The master negotiator, the man who promised peace through strength, is standing on the sideline hoping the problem resolves itself. Meanwhile, at least 18 American service members are dead, hundreds are wounded, our munitions are depleted to levels that could leave us exposed, and Iran has learned exactly how powerful the Strait of Hormuz is as a weapon. On Saturday, Tehran laid out its price for reopening it: billions in compensation, the return of frozen assets, and the full withdrawal of American forces. He wanted a way out, and he practically let Iran set their own terms.
The appeals court ordered above-ground construction on his ballroom stopped, writing, “We are aware of no instance in American history in which a President unilaterally demolished substantial portions of the White House. Until now.” And a Park Service assessment found his proposed 250-foot triumphal arch, more than twice the height of the Lincoln Memorial, would adversely affect 37 historic sites.
The question is not whether we survive this, but what will be left when he is done. The answer is us. We are what is left. We still have our voices, our votes, and each other. We are the guardrail they have not been able to remove. This country was founded on “We the People” and in rejection of monarchy. He can post all the flags he wants. The power will always belong to us. And the midterms are our chance to remind him.

We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better our chances of pushing back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.
