Donald Trump's Reflecting Pool speech HIGHLIGHTED his extreme incompetence

At 1:59 this afternoon, Donald Trump stood inside a square of bulletproof glass in front of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and spent nearly an hour struggling through his remarks. With one day left before the midterms, he seemed to be admitting defeat before a single vote was counted: “For some reason, the sitting president doesn’t win the midterms, but we gave this a very strong shot.” He couldn’t even keep the reopening of the pool from becoming another conversation about himself, suggesting that it might become the “Trump reflecting pool” before insisting he was kidding and asking the press not to report it. He attacked Democratic candidates and claimed we had won the war with Iran and hadn’t been fighting for months. Later in the day, we learned about another round of American airstrikes. The Wall Street Journal reported that smaller strikes had been taking place for weeks without public disclosure. Once again, the president’s version of reality collapsed against what was actually happening.

While Trump was making a spectacle of himself, his Justice Department was trying to do something far more consequential. It asked the Supreme Court to force California to set aside roughly 20,000 mail-in ballots from people the administration claimed were noncitizens, relying on evidence lower courts had rejected as unreliable. The court responded with one sentence denying the request. There was no further explanation and no noted dissent. Not a single conservative justice publicly objected. That refusal matters tonight, when so much feels uncertain and when we know how much this administration has been willing to do to silence us.

I keep thinking about Francis Scott Key in Baltimore Harbor in 1814, unable to leave as the British bombarded Fort McHenry, watching and waiting to learn whether the country he loved would survive the night. The words that became our national anthem were a question before they were a celebration. Was the flag still there? Tonight, we are carrying our own fear and hope into the darkness. Two years ago, waking up to the news that Trump had won felt like something had broken inside us. We have not healed, but that healing can hopefully begin tomorrow. We are still here, and we are still resisting.

We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better our chances of pushing back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.

Thank you for your continued support. Your paid subscriptions have enabled me to add a video editor and reach more people.

Independent media is under attack. You can make a difference with a $5/month paid subscription. Your support allows me to keep telling the truth about the lies and destruction unfolding in our country, defend myself from constant pressure from MAGA extremists, and ultimately spread the message to more people.

I’m fighting to save our country (before it’s too late).

I’ll see you tomorrow,

Heather
