At 7:26 this morning, East Coast time, Donald J. Trump sat awake inside one of the many gold-accented rooms inside the White House. And before most Americans on the West Coast were even awake, the President of the United States was already posting on Truth Social, calling the war that he started in Iran, which has already spread across the Middle East, a "lovely stay." He claimed to be in serious discussions with a more reasonable regime while they are actively attacking our military, and in the same breath, he threatened to commit war crimes...
UK here: I implore your subscribers to reread your article, then share it. Thank you for its clarity and fundamental humane reasoning. As a general observation, much less articulate than your article ; the Iranian people are not part of this equation, they are collateral damage though! - again, it’s all about ‘follow the (oil)’ and follow the corruption. I am praying that politicians around the world are negotiating a route map out of this catastrophic whirlpool of ever-darkening human , economic and political tragedy! The world order is at extreme risk and unimaginable consequencies could be on our doorsteps.
I share both Heather Reese’s posts and Heather Richardson’s posts on as many social media platforms as possible as well as to family and friends. I believe they both have a unique and thoughtful perspective.
Hi, I just listened to the podcast of Jon Stewart with Heather as guest . Wow, what an articulate, pragmatic, knowledgeable person . I have now subscribed to anything I can find with her name attached to it . A real treasure and beacon of light . Thank you. Richard
Another great post Heather. The refusal of that woman Leavitt to answer the question put to her by the NBC reporter says it all. Just like her toxic boss. I had no idea that the the mango Mussolini had this obsession about destroying Iran back in 1988.
On another matter: I hope that King Charles is advised to postpone his visit the US to celebrate the 250th anniversary. I don't think it will be popular with the British public if it goes ahead.
Yes I saw that on the news. Very disappointing. Of course the King really has no say in state visits. He has to do what the Government advises him to do.
I know how difficult it is to sit and compose something that reflects the magnitude and potential human devastation that we are witnessing at present. Intellectually and emotionally it stretches our reality to its limits and beyond. Thank you for all your efforts.
This is, indeed, a watershed moment. Not only in the unnecessary loss of life, inevitably US and Iranian military deaths, but the threat of planned war crimes on an entire population of 90m people…in retaliation. This will only lead to decades of retribution, catastrophic consequences reverberating around the world. For what? Ego, greed, corruption and self-preservation of a handful of privileged, ignorant and soulless individuals.
These are not the values of ordinary Americans, either left or right. This is far beyond partisan politics, it is what ultimately defines us as human.
What would happen if every general and soldier in our army refused to carry out these ILLEGAL orders? Wouldn't that be interesting....they have the power to say no to orders that go against our constitution so how do we get them to speak up? A dream perhaps, but oh, so much safer than this nightmare!!!! Where are the tough guys on OUR team who could pull this off? How many laws has he broken to date? We got rid of Nixon so easily.....what the heck is going on now that we cannot get a felon and child abbuser and yes, a murderer, OUT OF OUR WHITE HOUSE? Has mankind changed that much? Thank you Ms Reese for your daily courageous reporting. How do we get it to red states?
The difference between DJT and Nixon is that Nixon evidently knew he did wrong and had enough of a conscience and humility to resign albeit under duress.
You give us a lesson in history on the emergence of National Socialism 100 years ago. But what traumatizing event has moved Americans today to strive for a totalitarian dictatorship? I am missing the triggering element of a "Treaty of Versailles". I only see the consequences: great power fantasies (Greater North America), racism, ICE, propaganda, enforced conformity of the press, control of the courts, "God with us", Führerbunker under the ballroom, elimination of the thinking elite, control of financial flows by a clan, crimes against humanity etc. All these were the ingredients of the 1000-year Reich. The Americans and others liberated Europe from all this 70 years ago.
Who will free America from its nightmare now? Quick answer: all those who are not yet brainwashed and take to the streets for the "No Kings" protests. Thanks you all.
There is no triggering moment except the election to a second term of this President who has learned that he can ride roughshod over every human decency and the elected officials are too weak to counter him
Roll on November and every opportunity- however small- to push back
Heather, you are a fine writer, and I am not at all ashamed to admit that I, another writer, study what you say and how you say it in order to learn and hopefully improve my own work.
You do an excellent job today in pointing out just how very little our leadership--Trump especially, but not exclusively--cares about people. His sheer callousness is just mind-bending. Just as unbelievable is the fact that there remain a goodly number of Americans who apparently are incapable of seeing that he simply does not give a damn about them. Not a smidgin of a damn, not an iota, not a single blessed nanogram of a damn.
So... How close to "Let them eat cake" do you think we are now?
I was completely unaware of Trump's 1988 pronouncement regarding Kharg Island. Good catch! Thanks for sharing that valuable nugget, unpleasant though it be.
Thanks for another engaging and thought provoking read. Liked + restacked (as usual).
I think Trump is envious of Putin for his war crimes of continually bombing Ukrainian power plants in the middle of a brutal winter. I worked for the US military for 27 years and while I want to believe our military would not follow illegal orders to bomb civilian structure in Iran, I’m not so sure. Thanks for your great writing.
My rethug Maga congress critter in WI 03 who continuously reminds us of his military service and his "Christianity" recently met with members of the Russian State. I have written and called daily reminding him about his oath to the Constitution and about war crimes but he's on board with Shitler. Infuriating.
This racist fascist pederast orange idiot must be removed from power. His peremption date has passed quite a long time ago. Where are the democrats? Who does not oppose… consent.
Thanks, Heather, for spelling it out. Trump's extremism is evidence of his eligibility for expulsion from office. We need to hear that and act on it before he carries it out.
Thanks, Heather, for spelling it out. Trump's extremism is evidence of his insanity and qualification for expulsion from office. We need to hear that and act on it before he can carry it out.
I'll ask again, where are our elected senators and representatives? Why aren't they upholding the very values upon which our nation was founded? As Gomer Pyle used to say, "Shame, shame, shame, shame, shame."
There’s no valid reason to compare the Weimar Republic to the US. Ours was a strong if not strongly functioning country and economy when Trump was elected. Germans chose a Hitler, we chose Roosevelt. We were recovering from the Covid pandemic issues and had stable and trusted leadership. The current economy and state of our country is wholly a Trumpian mess. He owns it and we are going to need a generation or two to recover, if we exist. Trump exaggerated the problems, created more problems, and brought into government incompetent, ill informed, and corrupt people. Their influence will also need to be erased.
I think millions of Americans attempted to show him and the world through the No Kings protests that we too would like A NEW and MORE REASONABLE REGIME!
Until the world does something (UN, former allies), this will continue. It’s clear our own government is complicit. Our own senators and representatives are profiting off this. Uber rich business people, esp oil companies, are profiting off this. Trump‘s family is REALLY profiting off this. The only thing we can do is spread the word and vote in November, if that stays possible. However, the world must hold him accountable for the damage. He is doing, especially if he hits power grits. If that is truly a war crime, he must pay.

He absolutely should not go Imagine the personal PR Trump would make out of it and it would appear that we tacitly approve of his war which we don’t
Sadly it has just been announced that Charles will go to the US at the end of April

Agreed! Abolish the monarchy btw. Thank you

I do hope for some kind of “triggering” tsunami: midterms 2026.
Your great nation of Christian Nationalists seem to have lost sight of the fact that this is Holy Week

Take care. See you next time.
He has always been a vile man—almost from the day he was born.

WHY can’t we do what Poland and South Korea did????????

And what did the orange Mussolini do that weekend? Shut himself away in his grand mansion and play golf. Says it all really.
