At 9:10 this morning, after spending the entire weekend hiding inside his Bedminster golf club, avoiding the waiting press and their cameras, Donald Trump posted his first social media post of the day. By 10:35 this evening, he had posted more than 60 times, with each share more concerning than the last. The posts became so disturbing at times that many began openly questioning if the president of the United States was having a mental health crisis, with some of his fellow MAGA Republicans even ridiculing him back.
The president’s delusional posts spanned from him appearing to have attacked Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney while the two were playing hockey, with Trump standing above him and yelling at Carney to “GET UP, GOVERNOR,” to a post of Trump changing the name of New Mexico to New America. There was a fake image of Trump day trading from the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, showing him making “Hundreds of Billions of Dollars on Stocks,” and even one of him pretending to command Space Force from a space station while he detonated huge nuclear fireball explosions across the Earth’s surface below.
Those weren’t even the worst of what he shared. It was one AI-generated image after the next, including one with Trump seated on a massive, dark black metallic throne inside what looks like a dystopian military command center, surrounded by black armored robotic soldiers towering over him. Behind him, fire is everywhere, even filling the ceiling, as Trump keeps one hand beside a glowing, futuristic clear control panel, while an army of smaller attack machines look ready to defend him. At the bottom of this ominous image are the words: “GIVE THEM NIGHTMARES,” in bold white and red.
In another, Trump stands alone at the center of another dark, dystopian scene, on what appears to be the presidential seal. He is dressed in a long black coat and red tie, with two enormous black armored robots rising into the sky through the fog behind him. The robots are covered in Americana imagery, including American flags and eagle insignia. Closer to him are dog-like fighting machines, each with a bright red glowing eye. Across the bottom of this fake image, in large gold letters this time, are the words: “THEY WILL DREAM OF US FOREVER.”
He went from science fiction to real life and back again, posting about declaring the moon above our planet as property of America: “THE MOON IS OURS 🇺🇸.” He shared a cartoon of himself smashing the entire country of Iran with a giant American Flag hammer. There was a post with examples of the new UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE SERVICE UNIFORM that looked like it was stolen from a 1970s or 80s dystopian science fiction film about a galactic empire meets fascist regime. He declared Mar-a-Lago the “Southern White House,” and he posted a video of himself teeing off that was captioned, “He is a great golfer, wins all the time, but an even better President!” The president said he was the greatest president of all time and referred to himself in the third person.
The official White House X account posted its own fake video. This time, showing Donald Trump with a bright green, glowing, supernatural-powered ring, using it to cause destruction and harm. They captioned it with a quote from the Green Lantern oath: “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might beware my power… Green Lantern’s Light!”
His entire weekend schedule listed only executive time, and the press traveling with him have not had a single opportunity to see him since they arrived at 6:29 Friday night. This is the same pattern we have watched repeat over and over again. Around the same time, the bruises on his hands become more pronounced and covered with makeup; he disappears or is insulated for days with Trump loyalists only to then reappear, a little more energized than when we last saw him. The explanations each time change, but the pattern does not.
Between the bizarre posts, his disappearance, and his worsening health, we are all left with more questions than answers. Ty Cobb, Trump’s own former White House attorney, was asked recently whether he believed the president was still mentally capable of serving. Cobb’s response was, “I think he’s gone.” He called Trump’s nightly posting sprees “screeds” delivered “without oversight” and said, “The Cabinet will not invoke the Twenty-Fifth Amendment for a man who is clearly insane.” Back in April, Dr. Vin Gupta, a senior medical analyst, listed five symptoms he has observed in the president: erratic behavior, an inability to finish sentences, frequent confusion, illogical trains of thought, and word-finding difficulties. “The President,” Dr. Gupta concluded, “is exhibiting all the signs of dementia.”
The White House continues to reject every concern for the president’s physical and mental health. But at this point, the frequency of these posts and his instability begin to speak for themselves. He has made, or had someone else post on his behalf, more than 60 truly deranged social media posts. He is acting out violent fantasies, threatening foreign leaders in childish ways, posting about changing the name of New Mexico to New America, and posting a picture of himself working the drive-through window at McDonald’s. The president of the United States is gone indeed.
While he was having a mental breakdown in front of the world, I was trying to share a special moment with one of my daughters. It rained in San Diego today for the first time since February, and although for most that wouldn’t be something special, for us it is. I was sitting with my daughter, talking about how much we love that smell of the rain as it hits the dry ground. We sat there for a moment and just took it in. It was something so basic and ordinary, so small in comparison to almost everything else, but it felt like a gift.
As I sat there, I kept getting notifications each time he shared something, and the weight of his incompetence got heavier with each one. I tried to forget for just a few minutes that this is the man who holds the power to start even more wars, and he spent his Sunday sharing fantasies of destruction like a child playing with toys he does not understand. I kept thinking about how much our lives are at risk with him in charge. Every single one of us. But it goes deeper than that. Because this is also the man responsible for responding appropriately and effectively if a real crisis were to happen right now. His job is to lead, protect and serve, and from what we have seen, every time the stakes get higher, he proves he has no idea what he is doing.
If this were someone we loved, like an aging parent or grandparent, we would be having one of the hardest conversations a family can have. We would be asking whether they could still live alone. We would want to know if they were eating, if they were keeping up with basic hygiene, or if they were even capable of taking care of themselves in that way. We would also be asking if they understood what they were doing when they picked up their phone and shared 60 images of themselves commanding robot armies and detonating nuclear explosions from outer space. We would be heartbroken, scared, and most likely calling their doctor and taking away their car keys. Instead, we are letting the person posting this nonsense command the most powerful military on Earth. He holds the nuclear codes and is ultimately responsible for the safety of more than 330 million Americans. He has already botched a pandemic that killed more than a million people, taken us into another forever war in Iran that he said he would never start, and now he is destroying everything in his path.
If a catastrophic emergency were to happen right now, a cyberattack on our infrastructure, a military assault of some sort, or even a natural disaster like a devastating hurricane, Donald Trump would be responsible for our survival. And from what we saw today, there is no scenario where he could actually rise to the moment and lead us through it.
What makes this moment even more unsettling is that none of what we are seeing is new. The pattern of broken and disturbed men seeking political power is the backdrop to so many other dark periods of authoritarian takeovers.
Adolf Hitler was a failed artist, rejected twice from the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, who spent years drifting and homeless before finding in politics the validation he could never earn anywhere else. By the time he held power, his personal physician, Dr. Theodor Morell, was administering daily injections of what historians believe included amphetamines and opiates. He was erratic, paranoid, incapable of tolerating disagreement, and surrounded exclusively by “yes men,” people who only told him what he wanted to hear. Joseph Goebbels, his chief propagandist, projected the image of a devoted family man, while using his control of the Reich’s film industry to coerce and exploit women. His personal diaries, which survived the war, reveal a man consumed by vanity, insecurity, and an almost pathological need to be seen as important. He kept lists of personal grudges and used state power to settle them. Benito Mussolini was violent toward women and known for physical aggression long before he ever held office. None of their cruelty was something their positions of power gave them. It was something they brought with them.
These were not men who were corrupted by power. They were men who sought power to expand the reach of their cruelty. They were social outcasts and predators who discovered that politics would give them the one thing they could never earn on their own: control over other people.
The contrast between these past strongmen and their little sidekicks like Stephen Miller is shocking. Stephen was even described by his own classmates as someone whose personality traits seemed to make him enjoy provoking pain in others. Members of his own family publicly disavowed his views. Trump’s personal history, the dozens of accusations of sexual misconduct, his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, the Access Hollywood tape, the E. Jean Carroll verdicts, the vindictive obsession with anyone who has ever crossed him, are part of his character. They are who he is.
Maybe the most devastating part is Trump’s complete lack of respect for how it is affecting those beyond our own borders. Today, voters in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt went to the polls and the far-right Alternative for Germany, the AfD, won nearly 44 percent of the vote. That is more than double the 20.8 percent they received in the last election, five years ago. The center-right Christian Democrats, the party of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, won just over 17 percent, less than half of what they won last time. If the AfD were to form a government in Saxony-Anhalt, it would be the first time the far right has controlled a state government in Germany since the end of World War II.
The deeply alarming part is that Germany built memorials to warn the world about exactly this. Outside the Reichstag, their national parliament building, sit 96 cast-iron plates, each one bearing the name of a member of parliament who was persecuted and murdered by the Nazis for opposing Hitler. Those slabs exist so that no future generation could say they were not warned. I stood beside those slabs and felt the gravity of that warning. And then there is the glass dome, built in 1999, that sits above the parliamentary chamber in the Reichstag so the public can always look down on their elected officials and watch them. A permanent reminder that the government is ultimately controlled by the people, not by a single evil man or his enablers. It is a permanent reminder that power must answer to the people.
Because of the poison Trump is spilling all over the world, those warnings are being tested right now. Fascism is already here, and it is spreading just as it did in the 1930s.
We are now squarely under two months from the midterm elections. I’m sure many of us are already seeing the ads playing on TV. I know I am. This is our time to start to make our resistance visible. We need to start putting signs in our yards and go to local protests while the weather is still good and the days are still long. Consider finding organizations in our communities that are doing the work to get people to the polls, whether that means registering voters, organizing rides, knocking on doors, or helping someone figure out where and how to vote. Most importantly, we have to keep talking to the people around us. Our neighbors, friends, and family members. The people we see every day who may not be paying attention as closely as we are, especially on days like today, when it is very hard to explain away his erratic posting.
The reality is that the more days he spends posting online, the more it helps Democratic candidates come November. Whether his supporters say it out loud or not, nobody wants to live in this kind of instability. It’s not safe, and he’s certainly not doing anything for the American people. His decline is a political liability for Republicans, and it is a flashing red warning for the entire country. The more we see of it, the more his own party splinters away from him, and the greater the odds that we have the biggest blue wave in the history of our country. That is why I still have hope for America. And you should, too.

Thanks to reform UK and playboy Farrage who really is only interested in fast living and money but pretending he cares about politics in UK, we have had masked men rioting at Dover to prevent a landing of immigrant boat people.
None of us like the boats arriving but they like all of us have to be dealt with calmly and with respect until they can be processed.
Trump has given Europe the idea that violence and unkindness is the way forward. Put a mask on a person and they can behave how they want and be as violent as they want.
Luckily in UK our police still work and can deal with these thugs, and long may they do so.
