The 25th Amendment exists for this exact moment

The President of the United States fired his Attorney General. Pam Bondi was removed for one reason above all others: she failed to contain the Epstein files. She managed the process so badly that it drew more attention and more scrutiny than the administration ever wanted, leading to a bipartisan subpoena vote that will force her to testify under oath. Republican Nancy Mace said it plainly: Bondi “handled the Epstein Files in a terrible manner and made this situation far worse than it had to be for President Trump.” Worse for Trump. Not worse for the victims. Her replacement is Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal defense attorney, the man who as Deputy Attorney General personally directed that images showing “death, physical abuse, or injury” be redacted from the Epstein files. A more competent person running the same cover-up doesn’t mean it gets exposed. It means it gets harder to crack.

Three women are now gone or on their way out. Kristi Noem was fired by Truth Social post while giving a speech in Nashville. Bondi was begging behind closed doors on a Wednesday night, fired by Thursday morning. And Tulsi Gabbard is reportedly next, after she refused to condemn a former counterterrorism chief who resigned over the war and said Iran posed “no imminent threat.” Meanwhile, Pete Hegseth remains as Secretary of Defense despite the Signal-gate scandal. Kash Patel remains as FBI Director while using taxpayer-funded security to escort his girlfriend to bars. The women are purged. The men remain. And every time Trump removes a Senate-confirmed cabinet member, the pool of people eligible to vote on invoking the 25th Amendment shrinks.

That may be exactly the point. The 25th Amendment gives the Vice President and a majority of Senate-confirmed cabinet secretaries the power to declare a president unfit. Trump cannot fire J.D. Vance. He can fire everyone else. And every person he discards becomes someone who knows too much, owes him nothing, and has every reason to cooperate when the investigations come. Nixon’s Attorney General went to prison. Bondi still has to testify about the Epstein files. Noem still knows what happened when federal agents killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis. Gabbard still knows what the intelligence said about Iran before the bombs fell. History does not forget. And every person Trump throws to the other side of the wall becomes a witness.
