If they can do this to the governor of California, they can do it to anyone
Yesterday, California Governor Gavin Newsom stood at a podium and delivered a warning that should never have to be spoken in the United States. The Department of Justice has opened an investigation into him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Federal agents have been knocking on the doors of family, friends, and former employees. And then Newsom said the sentence that explains everything: “They have not found a crime, they are simply trying to find one.” A normal investigation begins with a crime and looks for who committed it. This one began with the person and went looking for a crime to hang on him. This is the Trump administration picking the target first and the charge second. And when given the chance to explain itself, the Justice Department declined to comment. That silence is its own answer.
And the sickest part is who they went through to send the message. His wife. A documentary filmmaker, an advocate for women and girls, and the mother of four children, now facing federal agents asking about her taxes and her nonprofit. Because that is how you try to break a man who will not break on his own. You go after the people he loves and make him watch. Newsom said it plainly: “Leave my wife and family out of your personal vendetta.” But they will not, because she is the leverage. It does not matter whether a charge is ever filed. The investigation itself is the punishment. And Newsom is not the first. He is just the latest. James Comey. Letitia James. Adam Schiff. Tim Walz. John Bolton. The names keep changing, but the line is always the same. Not party. Not what you did. Loyalty and disloyalty to Donald Trump. The people who crossed him get the grand jury. The people who served him, even the January 6th rioters, get the pardon.
This is not really about Gavin Newsom. This is about every one of us who speaks out, and about a country quietly accepting a world where presidents investigate their political opponents and their families as a normal part of governing. Once that line is crossed, there is no clear stopping point. The man running this investigation, Todd Blanche, was Trump’s personal defense attorney and said that if asked to step aside, he would tell the president, “I love you, sir.” The chilling effect only works if we let ourselves be chilled. So we refuse. We say the true thing out loud, and we say it again tomorrow. And we carry all of it into the midterms, now less than five months away, the one place they cannot redact us or knock on our door to make us stop.

We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better our chances of pushing back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.

Witch hunt! It will be everyone soon if we don’t stop them
If this administration spent 10% of the energy, it spends on hunting down Trump’s imagined enemies on, actually running this country… We would be living in an amazing place.
Instead forced to watch our fellow Americans suffer because Trump’s itty-bitty feelings are hurt. Wake me up when it’s over.
