A big half of this story not really addressed here is the cult of followers he is grooming with all the false rhetoric, who are cheering him on and believe what he says, and are themselves imploding as American citizens, going down with him to defeat in the coming midterms. We shall need to address that civic problem along with the one of their leader. We had better be thinking about and preparing for that as well.

Urban Hermit's avatar

Calling Democrats communists is laying the groundwork for Trump to use NSPM-7 to arrest Democrats as the next step to take over as an authoritarian strongman.

Trump must corrupt the midterms to keep Republicans in control of the House and Senate to complete his authoritarian takeover and protect himself and his cronies. Democrats must turn out in overwhelming numbers to counter Trump's attempts to manipulate the vote count. Democratic candidates must, unlike previous elections, challenge improbable Republican wins by demanding hand recounts. Governors must protect the ballot chain of custody to ensure recounts are possible. This means physically protecting the ballots from seizure using law enforcement or the National Guard if necessary, not just filing requests for emergency court actions as my own Gov. Spanberger suggested on MS NOW last night.

Shelly Rellim M.'s avatar

Technically they are already following NSPM-7 and with Stephen Miller, Nazi sociopath upping the quotas, their list keeps expanding.

We already have Renée Good and Alex Pretti, woman, Emma Landis, shot outside Concentration Camp, etc.

God Bless You, Heather, for your clear honest portrayal of how much danger our once beautiful symbol of hope our country represented is in. I thank you for your brave honesty that we all must hear.

Does he pay the Crowd to come and listen to his drivel or do people really believe in what he is saying.

He is talking such nonsense, and the crowd listening must know how rich and corrupt he is along with his cabinet - none of them are offering cheaper food or healthcare or rental, so the crowd must know how much money they are having to live with as the have nots. Why are they supporting trumps lies?

Deb Pierce's avatar

They support his lies because he also tells them it's OK to be racist. And they adore him for giving them that permission.

Mary Ann Yaeger's avatar

Thanks for the insight. That had never crossed my mind, but does explain it.

From my perspective, it's the fundamental truth of Trumpism. Ugh.

I’m an increasingly confused Brit. Is the crowd at these events invited or screened when arriving to ensure there are no dissenting voices to heckle the Tangerine TanTrump?

and

WHY are these Americans so charmed by his ‘strongman charisma’ and ARE they actually benefiting from the policies he is imposing on the country - and if not then WTF are they getting from supporting his administration? Are they just too ‘simple’ to understand the damage he is doing to the nation (and the world)? Or do they just hate Democracy and love being dictated to by anyone in a suit and tie?

Good questions, which many of us are trying to grapple with. As an older American, I am gobsmacked at how quickly those in power have been able—and willing!— to diss and disable our democracy. That some Americans continue to support this can only be explained by the power of a cult.

Thank you Heather. After Abdul El-Sayed's win, Republicans got real ugly, real fast. Ah yes there’s the boogeyman…

The Republican Party declared open season on America's Muslims on Wednesday. Not just the Felon in Vegas, the entirety of the cockroaches emerged…

Let’s be real JD Vance, who works for a man whose crime family has made shaking down the federal government and selling it off for parts his full-time job, takes his ludicrous fraud task force on the road accompanied by the ever-avuncular and sunny dispositioned Stephen Miller. Sometimes you really have to give them begrudgingly credit for having the cajones to pull this BS off and take it out for a spin. There’s JD saying, "We don't want the next administration, and God forbid you're gonna have President El-Sayed in three years. We don't want him to undo all the incredible work we've been doing.”

Then on Fox, the quack Dr Oz says that “The reality is all these grifters have come because we invited them into the federal government to steal our money.” Irony is not just dead, it’s been pulverized.

Today on Real America’s Voice Florida resident/Alabama Senator and probably soon to be Alabama governor Tommy Tuberville warned that "If we don't straighten out this country's voting and immigration system, we're not gonna make it. It's gonna be over.” Tuberville then referred to “Muslims as "the enemy." I'm gonna go back to Alabama and hey, we might build a 30-foot wall around our state." Just an FYI — USAFacts estimates that Alabama received $45 billion more from the federal government than it pays in taxes, ranking it among the states milking the feds the most.

Such nuance doesn't interest a growing number of Republican officeholders, for whom Muslim-bashing is good politics. Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tennessee) opined that "Muslims don't belong in American society," Rep. Randy Fine (R-Florida) said that "the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one," Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) posited that "we will never stop Sharia law until we stop Muslim immigration," and

Laura Loomer, an online provocateur and informal adviser to Trump, celebrated the NRSC's anti El-Sayed ad Wednesday for "calling out Muslim Communist Michigan US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for pledging his allegiance to the Muslim Brotherhood." She went on: "Abdul is Egyptian. Abdul is a jihadist. We can't allow for jihadists to hold office in America."

Then there is the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the official campaign arm of Senate Republicans, released an ad showing grainy footage of El-Sayed and this message:

"Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, the most radical Senate candidate in America. El-Sayed pledged support for the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, a designated foreign terrorist group ... and when his ally claimed America deserved 9/11, El-Sayed refused to disavow it." …. (Notice how these wackos use somebody’s entire name to try and make a point… Barack “Hussein” Obama.. make sure they really emphasize that middle name for effect)

Around the same time, Senate Republicans' super PAC, the Senate Leadership Fund, posted online that — "Michigan cannot afford the terror and destruction that chaos-agent Abdul EI-Sayed promises to unleash." (Both "terror" and “destruction" were underlined and bolded.)

"Michiganders cannot afford the danger that Abdul El-Sayed will unleash on them," the PAC proclaimed, going on to allege various ties between the candidate and Hezbollah, Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and Osama bin Laden. … Good grief is there anybody else..

An American-born son of Egyptian immigrants wins an election? Must be a terrorist plot…

Yeppers… They are off to the races folks.. giddy-up

And all that was really but a warm-up for what happened Wednesday afternoon in the Dirksen Senate Office Building in DC…

There, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) used the authority of the United States Senate — specifically, his Judiciary subcommittee - to hold a hearing purporting to demonstrate that there has been a decades-long Muslim conspiracy, led by the Muslim Brotherhood, to undermine and control the United States. And that El-Sayed is its crowning achievement… Who knew

Cruz had his aides put up a poster showing El-Sayed alongside the Muslim Brotherhood's emblem of crossed swords and the Quran.

"FROM THE MIDDLE EAST TO THE MIDWEST," it announced. "COMMUNIST EL-SAYED, LINKED TO THE BROTHERHOOD, WINS DEM SENATE PRIMARY IN MICHIGAN!

The Democrats' campaign for the Senate "is now openly embracing terrorist organizations waging war on America," Cruz charged from the dais.

He said tentacles of the Muslim Brotherhood, a nearly 100-year-old Egyptian organization, are “behind El-Sayed's political rise."

Democrats on the panel, accusing Cruz of “scapegoating Muslims," boycotted the hearing, saying they had "no intention of indulging this political creepshow." Cruz's fellow Republicans also skipped the hearing — though probably less because of the subject matter than because Cruz is so singularly disliked.

The result was a one-man show of religious bigotry and conspiracy theories, an awkward development that Cruz attempted to conceal.

"You may notice that there are empty chairs on the Democrat side of the dais," he said, without mentioning that the seats were equally empty on the Republican side. "The American people should ask themselves why not a single member of the minority decided that a hearing on terrorism was worth their time," he said, without mentioning that those in the majority also couldn't be bothered to attend. "It is an embarrassment and a disservice to the thousands of American victims of the Muslim Brotherhood."

The embarrassment, though, was all Cruz's. He informed the spectators how "the present members of this subcommittee" would conduct the hearing, even though he was the sole present member. Over the next hour, he struggled his way through Arabic names in a convoluted attempt to demonstrate that the Muslim Brotherhood is everywhere in America — in public schools, in universities, in government, probably even in your sock drawer…

Btw - didn’t Frumpy just make a deal with Saudi Arabia to have access to a nuclear weapons….you know where Fifteen of the nineteen hijackers in the September 11, 2001 attacks were Saudi nationals…

Who gets money from those “Muslim” countries..

Entities and developers from Muslim-majority nations in the Middle East—primarily Gulf states—paid roughly $300 million to Donald Trump’s private businesses and family ventures. This income came via real estate licensing, golf properties, and cryptocurrency partnerships, distinct from massive multi-billion-dollar state-level and defense agreements. The Trump family well there is Jared, Eric, Don Jr.. ah the list is endless.. as to those Muslims just giving them money..

Let’s not forget about the plane from Qatar…

Keep in mind this is the same Republican Party that is in charge and is holding back on FEMA funds to the people in numerous states because of what particular person was voted for to be President. Who knew that everyone in those states would be affected by just one persons ego. That this Republican Party is going to gut the Head Start program the federal early childhood education, nutrition, and anti-poverty initiative for low-income families.

Who’s the Boogeyman… it isn’t an American born son of Egyptian immigrants who just so happened to win an election..

Ummm, most Michiganders (but certainly not all) embrace our very diverse population and focus on our common ground, not our every difference.

Don't bother to verbally beat me up over my comments. Everyone still has a right to their own opinion. For now.

Mary Ann - No punches being thrown from here.

Since Michigan had IMO two outstanding candidates running for the Senate seat am envious being in the fire dumpster state of Ohio. Both Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens are outstanding. They may come at the issues from different positions but both have the ultimate goals.

They both were on point if either had won that race. Following her defeat, Stevens released a concession and unity statement emphasizing that Democrats must not remain divided. Emphasizing that division is not an option. She stressed moving forward to keep the Senate seat blue and defeat Republican nominee Mike Rogers.

It’s infuriating as well as extremely disappointing that the bigotry and prejudices are unleashed. Think that if Stevens had won the attack would be about her being a female, or a part of the Barack Hussein Obama’s administration emphasizing his middle name, or what had heard from some in the media as ridiculous comments about her accent and voice. The goal is to win over the MAGA agenda. It’s not that complicated…

Shelly Rellim M.'s avatar

We are all on the same side with the same goals. TJ is pointing out the FACTS, not to cause division, but to realize that the stories run deeper than they ever seem. Things are truly not exactly what they seem to be. That is the propaganda machine, even on the Democratic side where Division is Taking place with those accepting PAC and other dark monies, especially starting at the top with Chuck Schumer. And add to that, the amount of “news” is meant to be overwhelming, distractions, quick and not thoroughly investigated and on to the next piece…purposefully.

I’m in Maine and facing similarities to TJ’s Ohio on a different level.

It is important to understand that reliable sources like TJ, Lance Rosen, Heather Cox, Richardson, Heather Delaney Reese, Robert Reich, Aaron Parnas, etc. are not trying to attack or divide, but expose the truths behind the truths and propaganda being espoused to do exactly what you just did….attack an ally and cause division.

We are ALL on the same side of history here and NEED to be supportive, not combative. Questions and discussions are key to winning this battle. And also, the DNC is very divided and put themselves in $MILLIONS of Dollars in debt. Contributions should go directly to your candidate’s campaign fund.

UNITE WE STAND AND DIVIDED WE FALL❤️‍🩹

I thought oh, nobody will fall for the archaic label “communist”, many will have to google it to find an example of its use. And that may well happen with some of the youth and the naive, but I realize his base followers won’t look up any big words, won’t care about semantics, they will follow their dear yellow-haired Piper like rats to a dumpster. “All for you Master, all for you”. Words will not penetrate. 😳😡🤬

Anne Fletcher-Jones's avatar

What really scares me is that, even if he were to drop dead tomorrow, both JD and Lil Marco will continue to follow his policies, with Stephen “the ghoul” Miller probably in charge, and we’ll all be even worse off for the next six years at least. As an 85-year old, I’m glad I probably won’t live to see it.🇬🇧

This is absolutely true…more Vance. He is bought and paid for by the Evil, sociopath, technofascist and Palantir’s Thiel. Believe me, they already have plans for what happens next, The Heritage Foundation and Project 2025 and the EPSTEIN Class supporters and spending scared of the EPSTEIN files house of cards.

We can’t predict exactly how this will play out, but you can be assured there is a plan for Vance to take over at some point as trump will either die, become even crazier and try to get to the NUCLEAR Codes and they will have to act…sort of the Trolley problem. trump’sNazi, fascist, sycophantic, complicit enablers-RepubliKKKans and BeneDickt Fetterman will be forced to make a decision.

Bottom line, they have ZERO intentions of leaving OUR White House.
