Under Oath, Tulsi Gabbard Just Undercut the President's Case for War
At the Senate Intelligence Committee’s annual Worldwide Threats hearing, Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, destroyed the president’s justification for war in two sentences. When asked whether the intelligence community assessed that Iran posed an imminent nuclear threat before the strikes, she said determining threats “is not the intelligence community’s responsibility.” Then, under further questioning, she confirmed that Iran’s nuclear enrichment program had been “obliterated” by last summer’s strikes and that Iran had made “no efforts” to rebuild it. If the program was already destroyed and they weren’t trying to restart it, there was no imminent threat. The entire reason the president gave for taking this country to war falls apart.
And Gabbard knew exactly what she was doing. That detail about the nuclear program being obliterated was in her written testimony, submitted in advance. But when she read her opening statement out loud, she skipped it. When pressed on why, she said she was “running long on time.” She had time for every other talking point. Just not the one that proves the president’s case for war was built on a lie. She put it in writing to protect herself. She tried not to say it out loud. Loyalty brought her to that chair. Self-preservation is what made her talk.
Down the hall, Markwayne Mullin, Trump’s nominee to replace Kristi Noem at Homeland Security, described his qualification for running a 260,000-person agency as being Trump’s “friend.” Republican Senator Rand Paul opened by asking why they should trust “a man with anger issues” to lead an agency that has struggled with the proper use of force, and said he would vote against the nomination. Two hearings. Two rooms. Same day. Same theme. Every chair filled with someone chosen not because they were the best person for the job, but because they were the most loyal to one man.

I’ll now be sharing video versions of my nightly posts in addition to the written ones. We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better chance we have to push back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.
Thank you for your continued support. Your paid subscriptions have enabled me to add a video editor and get the message out to more people.
Independent journalism is under attack. You can make a difference with a $5/month paid subscription. Your support allows me to keep telling the truth about the lies and destruction unfolding in our country, defend myself from constant pressure from MAGA extremists, and ultimately spread the message to more people.
I’m fighting to save our country (before it’s too late).
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Heather
