Heather, I am an old vet (Vietnam, '68) who got into the magazine game and spent a rewarding 35+ years there. Got a couple of National Mag Awards, did some fun things, did some good. Here I am at 80, so pissed off that I, too, do a Substack every other day, plus I fight hard for my local issues.

Thank you for your reporting. I searched the New York Times website earlier today to find their reporting. I couldn’t find even a mention of his speech. This is inexcusable.
I seriously question Pete Hegseth's seeming obsession with "war" and "he-men" and his very strange order regarding testing the testosterone levels of service men. Is this some kind of compensation? Strange.
Heather, your voice is the last voice I listen to each evening. Your sign off gives me hope that America will, someday move beyond this dark time, but we must not forget it. Enough people were fooled by this false prophet, so we must all be vigilant so as not to let it happen again.
