On today’s episode of Rational Response, we cover three stories that we had to talk about.
First, the Supreme Court handed Trump a major win on presidential power. In a 6-3 ruling, the Court said he can fire the leaders of independent agencies like the FTC, overturning roughly 90 years of precedent. This puts agencies that were supposed to remain independent under Donald Trump’s direct control. The one notable exception was the Federal Reserve, where the Court let Governor Lisa Cook keep her job for now. The Supreme Court, for some reason, decided that Donald Trump needed more power.
Next, Trump’s Gaza “Board of Peace.” Trump created it to oversee reconstruction and postwar governance, but a new Guardian report says the board is now seeking sweeping legal immunity for its members, officials, security forces, and contractors. With Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, Susie Wiles, and Marco Rubio on the executive board and Trump chairing it, the real question is who controls Gaza’s future, who profits, and who answers if that power is abused. Peace without accountability is not peace.
Finally, Joe Biden’s fiery weekend speech calling Trump a “loser” and tearing into his vanity projects, from the East Wing ballroom to the Kennedy Center to the arch in his own honor to the Reflecting Pool fiasco. The “loser” line is funny, but the deeper point is about legacy and a man treating public spaces like personal branding opportunities.
