At 4:10 this afternoon, Donald Trump reemerged into the public eye for the first time since the shooting in Washington, D.C. this past weekend. As he made his way toward the podium, he struggled to summon any real energy, dragging himself across the stage, stopping every few steps to catch his breath and soak in the applause as his theme song played in the background. And for nearly 90 minutes, the President of the United States delivered a rambling, grievance-filled spectacle to one of the most loyal audiences he has left, the deeply red stronghold of The Villages. But even in a room designed to adore him, surrounded by people who were already on his side, he couldn’t hold it together. He lashed out at the sound crew mid-speech, spiraled into a racist and deeply disturbing made-up story about a sitting congresswoman and her brother sleeping together, mocked the very people cheering for him by insisting he was smarter than they were, and then veered into a bizarre tangent about the First Lady begging him not to dance to what he called the “gay national anthem”...

Not to be flip but which is better: the untried 25th or the failed impeachment? We have these mechanisms but we don't use them or, in the case of impeachment, they don't work - not with the traitors to democracy we see in this Congress.

I play golf every Thursday with friends and last Thursday I invited an old friend who is definitely a Trumper (we never talk about politics he knows I'm a democrat and I know he's a blind republican). The topic of Florida came up, and I said my wife and I had decided our travel there as snowbirds had come to a close this year and we weren't going back, basically because been there done that, time to move on. I mentioned tourism was way off this year and he asked why (here's where I surprised myself) I just said, "Trump that's why" then I elaborated about the Canadians and Europeans not coming here because of Trump and the conversation ended. I looked at his face and could see he didn't like it, but my brain said fuck that here's the truth so, think about it. My point here is, let it fly, it's our duty to tell the truth and confront this BS head on.

Ditto. I can’t even cry anymore, I’ve run out of tears. My friends are begging me to stop reading the news, at least for a few days, because they see how neurotic I’m becoming. I simply can’t believe this is happening and I’m so afraid it’s not going to get better. Or we won’t be able to fix all he has broken. On the flip side, and I know this won’t be popular, but I feel sorry for him. He has to be terrified. And his family must be terrified. I imagine it’s scary to face an uncertain future when you have always been in control. I am NOT excusing him, but I do feel sorry for him.
