Trump's midnight rage posting spree got ugly

Between 11:34 p.m. and 1:12 a.m., the President of the United States posted eleven times on Truth Social. He attacked the Pope twice. He attacked NATO. He shared an article citing one of Jeffrey Epstein’s defense attorneys. He defended an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus that he had deleted the day before after backlash from his own supporters. He sat down with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business and said the war with Iran is “very close to over.” The ceasefire expires in seven days. The administration has not reached an agreement to extend it. More than 5,000 people have been killed. And while he was saying those words, the Pentagon was doing the opposite of winding down.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon has begun approaching Ford, General Motors, and other commercial manufacturers about producing weapons and military supplies, a move the Journal itself compared to World War II mobilization. More than 10,000 additional troops are being deployed to the Middle East before the end of April, bringing the total to roughly 60,000. And the Pentagon has received direct orders from the White House to prepare for a potential military operation in Cuba. This is not what a country does when a war is almost over. This is what a country does when it is preparing for something much bigger. Venezuela was the test case. Iran is the main stage. Cuba is next. And Trump has already named the countries after that.

In the Senate, all but one Republican, Rand Paul, voted against a measure that would have reasserted Congress’s authority to authorize war. One senator out of 53 was willing to say Congress should have a say in a war the president started without asking. But the ground is shifting in ways Trump cannot control. After his DoorDash stunt at the White House backfired, people started deleting the app, and companies like HelloFresh and Our Place stepped up to take the other side. Every dollar is a vote. And in a moment where the institutions are failing us, our economic choices may be the most powerful tool we have left.
