At 4 p.m. Eastern Time today in Washington, D.C., the president and his wife walked onto the stage for what was supposed to be a Women's History Month event. While standing in the gold-drenched East Room of the White House, Melania Trump stepped to the podium in front of a handpicked room full of women, pulled the microphone close, and declared herself a "visionary." Behind her stood Donald Trump, shifting on stiff legs, sucking in air, and trying not to look bored as she launched into a four-minute speech about her rise as a mother, entrepreneur, and creative force. She talked about solitude, inspiration, instincts, business skills, and the sacrifices she's made as a mother and a mogul, a woman who had done it all. But it wasn't just what she said. It was what she didn't. Because none of that would've been possible without a staff at home and a billionaire husband funding the whole thing. Her entire speech was a performance. She was there to sell the story of a self-made female icon. And it was all theater.
She ended with the same delusion as she started...
I read your postings every day. They clarify for me to what depths the Republican administration and its enablers have sunk and how they are dragging everyone except the 1% down to degradation and despair. I will turn 79 next month and continue to volunteer, vote, write letters, protest, March, and contribute to democratic candidates. I never in my lifetime thought I would become a citizen of a fascist government, but here we are.
No matter the length, I read your pieces. They are so well written and so easy to follow. You are helping so many of us "see" what's occurring, and you help us remain hopeful that this listing ship will right itself, hopefully soon. Thank you for everything you're doing.
It’s so telling that Melania’s speech was all about HER, and she failed to mention the achievements or support of anyone else. This is not what feminine leadership looks like.
Not for nothing but how drugged up does she Melania look to you? She's got the good stuff, the stuff that takes all the edges off, all the nerves gone and all the lights bright. Then she has her hair done, her feet massaged, her make up applied, her clothing just so (and wildly, wildly expensive). Then she is ready to be a visionary for her mirror.
Fortunately, I did not have a mouthful of coffee when I read that Melania described herself as a "visionary." I'd still be cleaning off my computer screen.

I watched the Melania movie yesterday and paid particular attention to Trump's physical and cognitive abilities. As you have noted and documented, he's had SIGNIFICANT decline in the months since that FLOTUS promotional piece was filmed. He could navigate stairs without grasping at handrails and his words made more sense than they do now (although the entire "film" is almost totally scripted). Melania called herself a "visionary" in the "film" and between watching that pompous pointless "film" and what you wrote about Women's History Month, I am very, very concerned about the future for all of us in the USA and around the world. Please know I read every post and sincerely thank you for writing them.

He has always demeaned women, not honored them. Who else would bury an ex-wife near his golf course to get a tax exemption? You write very well and thoughtfully.
I have started reading your posts, like a bedtime story. I live in NZ, a refugee from Dubya, and fortunate to be here. But I am unfortunate in that my family are there and you write about them in your postings and the reality of what they are going through daily hurts me. Hearing about the gas prices skyrocketing while one sister is on food stamps, knowing what everyone is going through because they are just Joe and Josephine America and it was hitting them before the war started. The money needs to be redirected but I don’t see it happening, along with other events, before November. I, like others, read ur posts as a morning routine, along with my coffee! Ur clarity of writing helps me to sort out what is happening, in a consolidating way. All the bad news can really get me down and it’s hard to fight it. I have to absorb the information u provide and then move on as best I can. It would b devastating to not find joy in my day, with all the horrific events everyday, but we have to try, for our sanity. Thank u Heather for shouldering the research and grinding through the stories, so that we can learn and still find joy in our day.

My friend is older and doesn't have a lot in retirement savings. She stayed home to take care of her kids and divorced after 30 years of marriage. She doesn't have a robust work history so she waited to collect social security at 67 to get the max benefit. She is still working, collecting social security and using employer healthcare because it is cheaper than Medicare plus a supplemental. She thought she could retire this May at 69 and now she's not sure she can do it. They want us poor and to die working

Mind control, Repetition (over & over), lazy or lack of thinking of the electorate. We will all be able to see it at the gas pumps. Every time you’re at a gas station, thank Trump & Republicans out loud so all can hear you. That would be such an easy way to protest. You could even do it with a smile & no anger.
