Trump's dangerous downward spiral has reached a terrifying new level
On Father’s Day, while Americans gathered with family, the President of the United States spent his day hiding at Camp David, posting erratic threats on social media and giving a phone interview in which he threatened to erase an entire country from the planet. He warned that if Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, the United States would “blow the sh*t out of them,” told Iranian officials “you won’t have a country,” and added, “you won’t even make it back to your f------ country.” He described the very peace agreement he signed days ago as “just an option,” adding, “I can do whatever I want after that option.” This was the President of the United States, casually threatening to obliterate the nation he is supposed to be making peace with, fantasizing about seizing a sovereign waterway and collecting tolls on the world’s oil, all while his own vice president sat in Switzerland trying to negotiate that very peace.
And then Trump sabotaged it. At 9:30 this morning, as J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner waited to begin the first round of talks, Trump posted a threat to “hit Iran very hard again.” The agreement explicitly prohibits threats between the two nations. He violated his own peace deal on social media while his delegation sat in the room where it was supposed to be implemented. The Iranian negotiators walked out, refused to take a photo, and pointedly ignored Vance, who was left scrambling as the first day of talks collapsed around him. We have to wonder whether Trump set his own vice president up to fail. This was not just a power play. It was the President actively sabotaging peace talks during a war that has killed thousands.
What today made undeniable is that Trump has lost control of this war. His statements contradict each other from hour to hour. He cannot hold a position from morning to afternoon. And the people who could stop it have stopped being guardrails. Lindsey Graham went on television and casually described a future where the U.S. seizes the Strait by force and “obliterates” Iran, as if those conversations are already happening behind closed doors. Vance and Rubio could end this. They know he is not in control. Every person who has sat across the table from him and watched the lights go out knows it. And yet they keep clearing the room and pretending everything is fine. Meanwhile, 9.16 million Americans are in default on their student loans and gas prices have risen 40 percent since the war began, while the President posts that this is the “BEST ECONOMY EVER.” He is not in control. And it is our job to build the record of who enabled it and who found the courage to speak up.

These comments about not wanting to hear the daily insanity and truth in detail is exactly what T rump wants us to do. He wants us to grow tired and chalk it up to just another crazy day in the White House. We cannot let that happen. I applaud Heather for her steadfast coverage of this abomination. I can’t imagine how she can cover this day in and day out, but I am thankful for her and what she is providing to us all.
Impeachment is actually an easier avenue to removal than the 25th when you follow all of the steps through. Just saying… I’ll take either.
