Tonight at 11:35, something happened in the United States of America that should never have happened. After years of personal obsession with silencing voices that speak truthfully about him, the President of the United States was successful in removing a comedian from the air in an effort to control what millions of Americans are allowed to see, hear, laugh at, and think about. This will be remembered in the history books as one of the darkest modern assaults on the First Amendment of the Constitution and a deeply dangerous escalation for our country into authoritarianism.
This is exactly why we cancelled Paramount and won't watch CBS. I'm really hoping lots and lots of people do the same thing. These people ONLY listen and look at the bottom line regardless of what Trump says. Let's give them something to listen and look at.....mass cancellations. Disney sure listened.
We are also trying to do our part- boycotting CBS- trying to wean off Amazon-and instead trying to take our $ to small businesses. Hopefully 🤞 by November people will vote ( like never before… sounds Trumpie😮💨) and we can get back our Country‼️
I dropped Amazon years ago. It was not that hard to do when so many retailers have their own sites and I can get to lots of local stores and shop local. I avoid union-busting shops as well. Individually it may not mean much, but collectively it adds up.
Thank you Heather Delaney Reese. I appreciate all you do. I'm sure hoping that some Republicans will begin to use their brains, think about their constituents when voting. That means thinking. Not just doing something because dear leader wants it. Ballroom?? "Triumphal arch"?? Disgusting slush fund? Self dealing our tax dollars??? I sincerely hope some realize how ridiculous, childish this all is. And stop it.
Lol. But to be able to use their brain they must at least find one. What they have been doing the last few years clearly show that this search is far from over. Indiana Jones may help. Fuck gop, maga, trump and scotus. No pasaran
I have no idea why CBS ran ads tonight. Do they think people watching the Last Show respect companies that support this network's compliance with the grifting trump family and their suckups?
So sorry to hear you have to receive such negativities from the haters. I’m going to start including you and your family in my prayers and sending you light. Thank you so much for your good work. I watched Stephen Colbert tonight and at the end I cried. I cried because everything Trump touches dies. He ruins so much. And I finally just had to cry about it all.
Oh that little face at the end of your article ! It gave me such a lift as my heart was sinking.
Thankyou Heather for what you do. We will win and this time will remain forever a blot on American history.
The list of names from past wars that cause chills and memories of horrors will be added to by the names of those who ' are just following orders' now. They will never clear themselves of this shame , for generations remembered as collaborators with this fascist leaning regime. And as a famous woman once said ' And all for a little bit of money ' Because that it what it all comes down to.
I truly believe that ' All will be well and all manner of things shall be well' because of good people like you , this too shall pass.
With thanks to Margie from 'Fargo' and Julianna of Norwich. :)
My real problem is that no matter what I do, I can't shake off the feeling that it isn't enough. I attend two protests each week, support one new independent journalist per month, volunteer at a soup kitchen, and contact my congress critters regularly, and I am a member of Indivisible. I am no organizer or activist; I am not able to lead, really, but I am a willing follower. In spite of all this, I have a constant sense of dread and stress, as well as severe (and sometimes disabling) insomnia. I am not sure how to deal with this. I know I need to be strong for the duration, but I don't know how to achieve that.
It does get overwhelming sometimes but I just take a break and stay off my electronics and grab a real book- just to clean out my overacting brain for a while. Hope you can find something that works for you Rebecca- we still have quite a few years of this nightmare‼️Take care ♥️
It takes a community. It takes a nation. It’s too much as individuals. Be the positivity of the work you are doing—it’s phenomenal—multiply it by thousands and find solace. Know that together we will beat this, we are on the right side of history.
Oh Rebecca. You have a good and tender heart and those of us who do are the most wounded and distressed by this evil regime. I found that disengaging altogether or seriously curtailing online consumption helps. Even if it's just for a day or week. I also am involved in a community garden which donates organically grown produce to a local food bank. I have a faith community ( not Christian) for support,I do yoga, I volunteer for a local hospice. Most importantly, I get a daily dose of Vitamin N...time spent in nature. Tending a garden, watching birds, trees flowers, taking a walk anywhere there's green space is invaluable. These are the things that matter most. Find what that is for you . All the best.
I try to do that too. I love to listen to all the birds singing in the small woods across from my apartment. They are so beautiful and give me such joy and peace, and the trees are beautiful too—I’m a lifelong “tree hugger”.🇬🇧
Heather, It's absolutely disgusting that these MAGA morons are targeting you and your family for stating the obvious about the orange buffoon. Thus just shows how stupid they are. I had never heard of Stephen Colbert and hope that other critics aren't silenced.
Mary Trump, Trump's niece, said that, according to Ivanka (his first wife) he had a copy of Mein Kampf on his bedside table. If that's correct, that says it all really. During the war in Britain there was a very funny cartoon mocking Hitler. Of course the difference is that the whole country was at one against the evil regime and it divided like the US.
Please don't despair. We in the UK stand with you shoulder to shoulder.
What you are doing is so important as having connections to USA I need to feel the hope you are all needing.
What is happening is horrific and if Stephen Colbert wants to come and broadcast in Uk we want him and will make sure he gets aired!!
The amount of cowardice in the senate at the moment is appalling. The war in Europe against Hitler was won with solid bravery and uniquely brave people who resisted knowing it could mean not surviving.
Vocal resistance is as good as if not far better than fire power.
I need to hear Democrat politician shouting from the rooftops. Get out there start politicking and let’s hear how you can make this better. I am abroad with a wonderful group from USA and they are all so disillusioned with what is happening but so want to help.
Heather, can we have a list of who we can help financially that would be the best spent £’s without braking the bank ?
Again, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO. Independent journalism is the only thing that is going to save our country and bring it back from the brink of autocracy. The corporatocracy is working extra hard to steal our pie and ensure that We the People do not get a say in who gets a slice. What happened with Thomas Massie in Kentucky should be a prime example. I don't agree with most of what Massie voted for in the last year, but one of the things he did vote for was important. Also, most people probably don't know that Massie put forth the “Americans Insist on Political Agent Clarity Act” or “AIPAC Act," to try to expose one of the largest lobbying groups on Capitol Hill, American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), as working in the interest of a foreign agent. As you can probably guess, H.R. 8809 is essentially DOA. Massie essentially lost his primary to AIPAC's money. We can all thank Citizens United for that.
Thank you, Heather. I needed to be reminded that there is still hope. Especially like, "They wanted us to be quiet. Instead, they are about to discover that instead, they created the loudest resistance movement yet."
Yes, we must all continue to speak out when we see injustice anywhere. Injustice to one is an injustice to us all. That is something we must never forget.
Heather, thank you for preserving despite the cruelty and threats directed at your family. I read your words each day with resolve, knowing that you always offer why you continue to have hope. Give a good belly rub to your precious writing buddy on my behalf, and keep on keeping on!

We all need to keep searching for and speaking the truth. Silence is not an option.
We did the same months ago.

I think Colbert comes out the winner. He fought hate not with hate but with humor.
This is one of the best essays I've read since I subscribed. It let me know I made the right decision when I decided to do that.
This, for certain.

We are fans of Stephen Colbert - we didn’t watch last night though- I didn’t want to cry 😢- we will catch up today- it’s just so sad in SO many ways.
We stand beside you shoulder to shoulder from the U.K. and those that send despicable emails should be ashamed - but we can shout louder
Me too!🇬🇧. With all my heart!
Stay strong and keep up the fight. We are with you.

Janet, I said this the other day that if he had that book by his bedside, he had to have someone read it to him as a bedtime story.

Stay strong Hon, hopefully we have your back.
I’d love that! I’d even pay for a TV license so I could watch him on my iPad! Though I don’t have a TV.🇬🇧
