Trump tried to silence the wrong man and he’s not going to like what happens next

On a Sunday morning, the President of the United States opened Truth Social and shared a fake image of a plane carrying the American flag, firing missiles into boats as flames erupted across the water, bodies flying through the air beneath the word “Adios” in giant red letters. He posted a fake movie poster of his political enemies in orange prison jumpsuits, including “Barack Hussein Obama,” calling them “a bad, (sick!) group of people.” He shared images of himself clasping hands with Xi Jinping under giant text reading “President Trump gets YOUNGER.” He turns 80 next month. Every post tells us exactly what he is most afraid of. His own decline. His own irrelevance. His own crimes catching up to him.

And underneath all the spectacle was the story he least wants us to look at. He tried to sell the country on an Iran deal that does not exist yet, bragging about a triumph that lives only in his imagination. Then, hours later, he admitted it himself: “Nobody has seen it, or knows what it is.” The White House has reportedly been urging Republicans to publicly tweet their support for this deal before anyone has read it. A leader confident in what he has built does not need his party to pre-load their applause. That is a man bracing for the floor to give out.

But the moment that should worry him most came from Congressman Thomas Massie on Meet the Press. When asked if he would name more names from the Epstein files, Massie said yes. He accused acting Attorney General Todd Blanche of violating the law by sitting on millions of files. He said he does not believe convictions are possible with Blanche and Kash Patel running the Justice Department and FBI, because both have “effectively perjured themselves” by claiming Epstein acted alone. And then he said the line that surely upset Trump: “Even Melania doesn’t believe that. The First Lady knows that Jeffrey Epstein didn’t act alone.” Trump tried to eliminate Massie by backing a challenger and ending his career. What he actually did was take the last restraint off a man with nothing left to lose and a legal shield to say whatever he wants. The cover-up has a hole in it, and the president widened it himself.
