Trump tried to have the perfect birthday weekend - then everything fell apart

Yesterday morning, an official White House account picked a fight with the weather. When The Weather Channel forecast a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms that could affect the UFC cage fights on the White House lawn, the administration’s Rapid Response account attacked “the friendless loser who wrote this bullshit clickbait headline.” Then Mother Nature proceeded to delay the start by 45 minutes. That is the whole presidency in a single morning. He can insult the forecast. He cannot move the clouds.

On his 80th birthday, he walked into his own party looking exhausted, with hand bruises poorly covered by makeup, and appeared to fall asleep during the fights.

At 5:29 this evening, he gave himself the present he wanted most. He announced he had ended the war with Iran. “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” he wrote, authorizing the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. And the lie sits right inside his own words, because a few sentences later, he said it won’t actually be signed until Friday. A finished deal does not have a signing date five days in the future. The one subject missing from his victory lap is the entire reason this war supposedly began, Iran’s nuclear program.

But this weekend, reality happened anyway. His name finally came off the Kennedy Center. After losing in court and on appeal, construction workers pulled the letters down, hanging a tarp over the building so no camera could capture the moment. He swore his name would stay on that building, and it did not, because saying a thing does not make it so
