Hello Stephen. I live in the Netherlands and read Heather’s posts every day. I couldn’t agree more with what you have said here. In our country a slow shift towards the right is also happening. Makes me sad!!
We also have a slow shift to the right in the form of One Nation. It's leader, Pauline Hanson, received a small private jet (supposedly a gift to the value of AU$1M) from Gina Reinhardt, a mining magnate who, at the same time, had the CEO's of two of her subsidiary companies donate 500k to the party. Both PH and GR have expressed strong support for DJT and his administration. Worrying times indeed.
I truly believe that the only way this ends, is by the will, might and courage of the American citizens. Looking over the fence from 🇨🇦 and seeing what our closest ally has become is more than heartbreaking. It’s grief. Every single day more unhinged than the day before. The rest of the world sees you. The rest of the world is just as exhausted as you are. Keep fighting.
Garnet, it is heartbreaking to read posts like yours. It reminds me of how global we have all become together; I think that is exactly what we need to make this world work for everyone. I wish I had more than an apology to offer our friends in Europe and all over the world for the stupidity and lack of vision and strategy this convicted felon and pedophile has. He operates on base instinct only and that is to stay out of jail.
I never envisioned a day where reporters, comedians, newscasters, and others would have to fear for their safety or livelihoods over spoken or written words in the United States. How very disappointing it is to know that our elected officials, the ones who are supposed to be checking and balancing, have forgotten what their job is. I'm grateful to you, Heather, for so many reasons.
So glad you are all safe. Sorry for all the haters. Hopefully to balance the bad with some good, I know a few staunch Trump supporters, who may remain republican, but he no longer fans of Trump. Also I'm a 58yr old nurse who lost the career I loved to disability. Physically I cant get around like I used to. I was never much into politics until I voted for Obama twice. Then voted against Trump. I have really enjoyed your writing, I had no idea who you were when I read that 1st post, but you were saying things that I felt an believed, and even better it sounded like the truth, and you always seem to back it up with (your opinion yes) but you explain things or expand the topic in a way that backs up your opinions. Ive learned so very much from your writing. And I share your words as often as I can. So thank you, and you and your family please stay safe.
Heather, another excellent post. You know, I think the reason that the orange one is so offensive about Obama is that, deep down, he knows that Obama is a better person than he is. He's better educated, more articulate and was a much better President.
I'm sorry you've had some unpleasant posts. Ignore them if you can because they're just ignorant people. There are many people who agree with you.
I am not sleeping tonight. I can only sleep when I'm totally exhausted, which happens roughly every other night. I have been advised by my friends and even my counselor to look away, to "make my world smaller." But I refuse to do that, because it was low information voters and those who couldn't be bothered, who got us into this in the first place. I will not join their ranks. Now, granted, I do need to manage my media consumption better than I have been doing, to apply some guardrails to my online life, but I consider it to be my civic duty to stay informed. So no, I will not look away.
Same here Rebecca, a lot of my medical issues are worse under stress- OKAY- but I still have to know what’s going on! I hear you and I get it- it’s just a survival mode- so I read the books and my Substack friends… some days are better than others. Take care ♥️
I struggle too. What helps is making a connection with a stranger. Even if it’s a “how are you” from me to them. Divided is when we are weakest. Together we can get up again.

I think a lot of people are worried about what Trump will do if he becomes a lame duck after the midterms. To fulfill his endless need to feel mighty, he'll lash out internationally. The regime has already started on Cuba. I worry about Greenland, Mexico, and whatever he can get away at home, with in attacks on Blue states.
