At 9 pm, Donald J. Trump began what would become the longest State of the Union address in American history. For one hour and forty-eight minutes, he stood in front of the country and delivered a speech that was not about the state of our union at all, but about the state of his own power, and how desperate he is to hold onto it as it slips further and further out of his control. It was full of deliberate lies from start to finish, packed with racist talking points, made-up statistics, twisted grievances, and the kind of unhinged rhetoric that made clear just how afraid he is, not only that the truth about his ties to Epstein will finally come out, but that the full impact of what he’s done to our economy, to our international alliances, to the rule of law, and to the basic systems that hold this country together will finally catch up to him.
And if there was still any doubt about what this night was really about, he erased it himself with this...

There are clear echoes between T’s economic fantasies and the ‘manifestation movement’ in contemporary consciousness culture - unsurprisingly spearheaded by figures such as Deepak Chopra - that are unmistakable here. This is something I’m trying to understand and disentangle in myself. Thank you for shining this light.
My best friend tried to tell me that the Don did a great job tonight. Thing is, he lives in an assisted living place for folks with mental health issues, doesn't buy groceries or try to run a household on a fixed income like I do, so he was blissfully unaware of all the lies and economic sugarcoating. And that is our problem, getting the knowledge of trump's lies in to the heads of people like him.

I can go deep in the links u provide or am satisfied I know what’s going on. It’s so depressing to see our Country’s bad state and the madman who is leading it. I got through about an hour and a half of it, but I finally had to capitulate and head to bed. I'm sorry I didn't stay up and watch him scurry out and probably bandage his shaken hand. Release the Epstein files and this will come to an end; it already is for some high-powered people in the UK. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
Gosh Heather, I admire you so much for watching Trump's deranged speech so the rest of the country doesn't have to. At the end of WW2 Hitler wasn't a well man and he took the coward's way out and took his own life. Surely the WH doctors know that Trump isn't well and could have him removed on medical grounds?

I will continue to resist and to fight for the truth and for justice, because I can’t possibly allow myself to be on the other side. But I honestly don’t believe anymore that we can save our nation from the evil that led to this destruction, this abomination. We truly have the government we deserve.

Spanberger's rebuttal, and the comments were vile and mean-spirited even as those commenting repeated tRump's lies and accused Democrats of being vile and mean-spirited. I kept thinking to myself, these people are truly evil, and that scared me. I have always tried to find the good in people, but maga is showing me that some people have absolutely no redeeming qualities. I also did not believe that all Republicans are maga, but anyone who is still standing by Republicans ARE maga, otherwise how could they support tRump? Finally, I also believe tRump is being partially "controlled," but at the end of the day, he is the president and is responsible for whatever happens. God help us all!
