Hi Heather,

This now seems to be playing out like a really bad, low budget movie. (Except nothing is low budget with these amateur actors, not even their food bill…two million dollars in Alaskan king crab in one month!). Tdump can hardly manage a coherent sentence. Hegseth is more concerned about his photo, like an actor fresh out of drama school. These actors, because nothing they say is based on reality or truth, are attempting a staging of “War and Peace” when, in reality, they could not perform a thirty second ad for bin liners! The scenery is falling around them, the makeup is melting under the lights. This show is a flop.

In the real world, lives are lost by the hundreds (soon to be thousands), individuals and entire countries struggle with health, financial ruin, fear and dread. Your daughter questions the world around her with more clarity than the entire MAGA base. We are winning this fight.

A show is a flop only when people stop tuning in. These rally-goers are people who watched all the seasons of the Apprentice and believed the man behind the table was firing people for cause, like a good CEO would do, not for ratings which is what a bad actor does. His fan base is dwindling, and the viewers are turning off the show. But what are they watching instead?

Your conversation with your daughter resonated with me today. We’ve had the same conversation with our kids; the reality we have to live with because the moldy tangerine is in charge but not forever, and how we can keep hoping for a better tomorrow. Keep doing what you do!

My oldest granddaughter is 14. She is the one who told me who Charlie Kirk was. She said "MeMe, listen to what he says. It's wrong. I'm sorry he died but he was a bad man. The president is a bad man. Do something." She wants to be Governor of Florida one day, they live in Florida. She gives me hope.

Your 14-year-old granddaughter is my hero. Tell her that she gives us all hope.

She is so smart she's a little scary. A dedicated Democrat already. I'm Independent. She has a way of seeing through BS and finding the truth. She is one of many young people who think for themselves. And so we do have hope for our country's future. Thank you so much.

The heartless, thoughtless, sycophantic laughter at the rallies and cabinet meetings will haunt me till the end of my days. I still hold on to the hope to see better days but it’s tempered by this vision of a once great nation stumbling downhill pulled by its own gravity and shortsightedness as has happened so often in recorded history. Courage and clear eyes, everyone.

Kenneth, It is a terrible comparison to make but let me do it any way: For my entire life I have often marveled at the men who sat at the table with Hitler and did not take the opportunity to shoot him when they had it. I don't marvel any more. I get it.

Very thoughtful, thank you for your analysis. It doesn’t matter in terms of the overall argument, but I really do not believe that any general would have said, “Sir, it’s a lot more fun doing it this way.” I think that’s the way that Hegseth and Trump think about it, but not the people in the actual military. I hope I’m not wrong.

Katy Bolger's avatar

Oh, Susan, no general said that. Twump makes it up. He lives a fantasy in his head with all these supplicants talking to him like he is a god.

Ann Panda's avatar

Who are these deplorables at his rally, still cheering for him?????

Katy Bolger's avatar

A tisket a tasket, a basketful of deplorables.

Katy Bolger's avatar

Twump tried to play music over a fainting person? Distraction. Twump denigrated a U.S. Senator for disagreeing with him? Don't look behind that curtain! Twump laughed along with a mythical general at the deaths of Iranian sailors? Laugh along, y'all!

He doesn't care.

He doesn't fn care.

And if those idiots behind him go along, well that shows how we are a great country filled with some stupid people. People who have watched Fox news for 25 years, now over two generations, and have been learned to be stupid. Stupid is such a useful word, and one that is true name-calling, but even as a mature adult, I am reduced to it: stupid. Yes, badly educated and taught to hate, but stupid is as stupid does. Get it?

But Heather, the real fear for me is not his laughing at dead Iranian sailors, but rather laughing at, let's just say, four dead in Ohio. When they turn the guns on us, at his orders, then we are in trouble. A poet and a nurse, and countless others, have already died to prop him up as a strongman. Will there be more? Yes. Stay tuned.

And the reporters growing a pair? Seems to be the women who are asking the tough questions, seems to be always the women asking the tough questions. Apparently it is not cojones required for strength. No, men have guns. Women have questions. Tell me I'm wrong.

Bill Corbett's avatar

Katy, good point on the women asking questions. I'm wondering if possibly they have all agreed and know he doesn't like women, in fact he hates them and they have decided, fuck him, let's all get in his face and piss him off and watch his blood boil and maybe collapse like the woman at the rally. Please ladies, keep asking those questions and more.

I think that when he called a female reporter "Piggy" the gig was up.

REAL COURAGE is about being afraid of something but doing it anyway!!

WE ALL NEED REAL COURAGE NOW MORE THAN EVER BEFORE!!

And so do our politicians!!

WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER!

WE ARE NOT INTIMIDATED!!

WE SHALL and MUST OVERCOME!!

Katy Bolger's avatar

Right on, Sky Blue, and if necessary, YELL LOUDER. And for those of us from NYC, add some good fn curse words in there.

Watching this ghastly clown show reminds me of a bumper sticker I once saw: “Karma’s only a bitch if you are.” This is going to come back on these monstrous people.

Thank you, Ms. Reese. An excellent overview and an offer of hope.

As far as I'm concerned one cannot call themselves 'christian' and support this hate filled creature. The two are mutually exclusive. I don't have children but that was a beautiful conversation that you had with your daughter. It gives me hope when I hear young people asking deeper questions and finding wise council from parents with heart.

Who are these sad people who attend such rallies?

Keep on keeping on…you’re doing a great job….you’re always so on point and your insights are so helpful. This regime is beginning to implode..the cracks are getting wider and deeper…every time he speaks he shows us how bad it’s getting. He must be stopped before he does something we can’t recover from. The press must keep pushing back it’s the only way we’ll get the truth and I think they understand that fully. Remember the old saying from the mudslinger days….the more mud you sling the more ground you lose..his words are mud..we can see that for ourselves in our every day lives…let him keep slinging and soon he will have NO ground to stand on.

The UN security council should immediately condemn this unlawful, unauthorized war in Iran. Serious war crimes have been committed. Israel bombing oil refining and storage facilities near Tehran is releasing carcinogenic toxins on millions of innocent people and children. Don't forget, on day one of this war, US military targeted and killed over 170 school girls, a horrible war crime, that they should be held accountable for. There is no excuse, sorry we made a mistake, this war must end, now.

In reading your post today, what became obvious to me (again) is that the problem is not just Trump. It is the people who support him.
