Trump is threatening treason charges against the press
Is this the end of free speech?
Aboard Air Force One, the President of the United States spent 20 minutes berating reporters and describing the war he started, the one killing American soldiers and driving gas prices through the roof, as “one of those little problems in life.” When an ABC News reporter, a woman, asked for a comment on the six dead soldiers, Trump asked who she was with, and called ABC “the most corrupt news organization on the planet,” and refused to answer. She tried again, asking about the 5,000 Marines being deployed. He put his finger to his lips, said “Shh,” and called her “a very obnoxious person.” A male reporter was then told, “You’re much better.” He replied, “Thank you, sir.” Six American soldiers went unacknowledged by the man who sent them there.
He then accused American media companies of working “in close coordination” with Iran and called for reporters to be “brought up on Charges for TREASON for the dissemination of false information.” He praised FCC Chairman Brendan Carr by name for “looking at the licenses” of news organizations he called “Corrupt and Highly Unpatriotic.” He went after late night comedians. He accused Western outlets of promoting AI-generated propaganda, while his own White House has repeatedly posted AI-generated videos as real military content. The hypocrisy is the strategy.
But the resistance is pushing back. The ABC reporter kept asking questions, knowing she would be attacked. Saturday Night Live cold opened with a direct hit on gas prices, the war, and the Epstein connection. At the Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel took the stage and reminded the audience that some countries’ leaders don’t support free speech, then said, “I’m not at liberty to say which. Let’s just leave it at North Korea and CBS.” The press is under threat. Treason charges are being floated against journalists for doing their jobs. And every voice that refuses to be silent is proof that the First Amendment is still alive.

You need to watch Heather Delaney Reese’s video. Period. She explains exactly how out of control Trump is, she has receipts, and her analysis is spot-on. Update: In a separate and newer post, Heather also points out how Trump is advocating charging Journalists with treason. This thin-skinned, disgusting, senile perverted old man is way past the Use-By date, and he needs to go. He needs to go, and he knows it. He will continue to escalate his own treasonous, dangerous, and flat-out un-American rhetoric to try and affect the outcome of the mid-year elections Trump will answer his personal cell phone any time, regardless of who’s calling. He is also more than happy to talk to whomever he’s speaking to.
Trump’s personal cell phone number is available on the black market to anybody who offers enough money for it. A reporter called the number and spoke to Trump for forty-five minutes about a litany of topics. One of the most chilling off-the-cuff remarks Trump made dealt with how Iran’s Kharg Island has already been bombed severely, “We may bomb it again, for fun.” At the same time he’s on the phone with a journalist, he’s also posting anti first-amendment, anti press screeds on Trump Social. He once told Lesley Stall of CBS: “I do this so that when you question me in the press, nobody will believe you.” Brendan Carr continues to use the FCC as an enforcement arm for Trump’s policy, going after media companies, and approving media mergers that suit the political aims of this administration. And don’t forget Lindsey Graham’s Senate bill S.3546, where he is looking to remove restrictions on liability for internet services (“Sunset Section 230 Act”) in an attempt to stifle online discussions and comments like the very one you’re reading right now. MAGA knows they cannot interfere with our First Amendment rights and they know it. Indeed, it’s that very same First Amendment that allowed their idealogical poison to permeate political discussion in the first place. Now, they want to pull the ladder up with them, as a means to stay in power. It’ll be a cold day in hell before America willingly gives up these rights, but that won’t stop these jokers from giving it a try.
Trump says a lot of things, almost none of them true. He tosses the word "treason" around like paper towels after a hurricane, but it's almost never applicable, and it is not applicable here. I know we have to take his threats seriously, or one day we're liable to be caught flat-footed, but that doesn't mean everything that drools out of his mouth is a hair on fire moment.
Treason is the only crime defined in the Constitution. Once we learn that definition it's obvious how toothless that threat always is.
