This is the worst, the clearest and most frightening report , one that I read with my jaw dropped and at the end my hands shaking with anger.

America has a bankrupt gameshow host with felony convictions , with no knowledge of history or even geography, far less world politics as a President. One who is showing clear signs of age-related dementia, on the verge of starting another world war . I was born just 6 years after the end of WW11 and clearly remember my father saying something that puzzled me at a time when I knew nothing but Liverpool bombsites as a playground.

'America sneezes and the rest of the world catches a cold'.

Right now , here in the UK, because of the corrupt American political scene at the moment ,we are shivering. I lived in America for 14 years many years ago and loved it , I offer our great sympathies and hope to you all.

It seems like things are getting worse. Trump is doing what Goebbels did in Nazi Germany. He controlled all aspects of the media and brooked no opposition. Who else but DJT could say that Iran is one of the little problems of life and refuse to answer a perfectly legitimate question from a female reporter fron a reputable news agency (and being rude to her, showing his misogyny). How world leaders can deal with such an idiot is beyond me.

Equally disgusting is the male reporter thanking him for insulting her and then continuing with his question as if nothing had just happened! I would like to know his name.

Ann Panda's avatar

I just came on to say that! Why didn't he and the other reporters say "Answer her question and stop insulting her!" ?

Janet Currie's avatar

Too intimidated probably.

Carol, I am with you. There is a lot to unload in this article...but i would really, really, like to know who he was also.

And yet, I have neighbors, long term friends, and family members whose support of 47 is unwavering. I just don’t get it, I fight the urge to chalk each of them off as heartless but my energy on that particular fight is waning, which likely means a dissolution of my association with them. As much as I don’t want that, I’m also surprised at how my resolve toward its acceptance.

Janet Currie's avatar

Mary, I guess there's no talking to MAGA supporters. Yet if you asked them what the orange buffoon has achieved could they name one thing he's actually done? He can't seem to understand the concept of free press. He's like a big kid who wants praise all the time. I'm from the UK and much as I .disagree with Starmer's polices he's never tried to gag our press.

Hi Janet C, sit down before you read this…this is what I’ve been told 47 has accomplished (their words not mine):

He has made the U.S. the envy of the world. It was so bad due to Biden.

He has built up and modernized our military. Biden and the Dems hate the military and police too.

He has stopped all those other countries from ripping us off.

and my favorite:

You know, everybody says he’s a sexist but he has appointed more women than any other president.

😱

True. Not 'orange buffoon' but Ugly American

I have had to let go of my friends and family who are conspiracy theorists. Seems ALL maga ARE! I just ghosted them because, truly, I DON'T CARE what the think anymore and refuse to waste my time ending it with an exhausting argument.

I just no longer TRUST any of the because you never know, when you're dealing with conspiracy theorists, when YOU will be the next person that they consider their dire enemy!

They are very insecure, narcissistic because they can't admit they're wrong, and paranoid people.

I find NO need for them in my life and certainly don't miss them AT ALL. I am SO much more in PEACE now!

It is always the female reporters who ask the real questions and the male reporter " please sir I'd like some more " in answer to the misogyny . Shame on him and everyone of the remaining reporter, male and female , who move on , business as usual.

If we can't sleep at night how do our democratic elected officials close their eyes in all of this . Another day another email to my reps BEGGING them to DO SOMETHING!

Heather, I must compliment you on your exceptional writing. You capture the readers attention, especially mine, with precision.

I look forward to your very next expose. Thank you!

I know it’s unrealistic, but why can’t the media just stop following him around like puppies and ignore him completely? We’ll rely on independent journalists to get us the real news. We all know he can’t stand to be ignored.

If anyone needs to be prosecuted for treason it is t.rump and his enablers.

And thumbs down for the male journalist who licked it.rumps heels and left the ABC female journalist in the cold.

OMG! Where are the democrats? Silence is consent. Who does not oppose agrees. Wtf? Wake up and move it seriously pleaaase. Should be beg on our knees to make these so called democrats act and react? What a dismal attitude, indeed.

Too depressing to comment on your main story, but lovely to see your cat and its little furry friend. We have two spaniels who are now about three years old one came with a small soft toy which has been repaired put through the washing machine and rescued from various hiding places(her little mate thinks that’s a fun thing to do) and yet she won’t go to bed without it.

Pamela S.'s avatar

You are right, John; this is depressing (but necessary to know.) I also have nothing to say. But yes - Heather’s sleepy kitty brings it all back down to earth. My little spaniel is my touchpoint of goodness and reality- a symbol that all is well in the part of the animal kingdom that cannot lie and has no need to seek riches or wage war.

An insane man fantasizing that the world is as he sees it, but from an official podium that formerly compelled respect. Thanks, Heather, for spotting the clues to truth in this fog.

Threats..lies…threats..lies…threats…lies…….that’s all he’s got….stand up to him…push back…demand answers…he deserves no respect…hold those hideous Florsheim encased feet to the fire and start doing it NOW.

Behind the bravado is a growing sense of desperation. They don’t like the truth, and we need to keep telling the truth, loud and clear.

Hi Heather,

Thanks as always for your excellent reportage. The kettle is nearly at boiling point…drastic measures to shut down the press. Independent journalism is more important than ever. The attack on the ABC woman reporter falls into a familiar pattern. Respect and all credit to her…equal shame on male colleagues that failed to support or just as ask the same fucking question! Tdump is a fake President full stop!

Money…MAGA Inc roundtable dinner…cost per head? Political Action Committee (PAC) selling access to National Security briefings? Next they will be selling tickets to press the nuclear button!!!

Anne Majusiak's avatar

There is pushback from both Republicans and Democrats on Trump trying to control the press according to Aaron Parnas. He and Heather are must-reads for me on Substack. “FCC Chair Brendan Carr faced criticism from Republicans and Democrats after warning that broadcasters could lose their licenses if they air what the agency considers “fake news” about the Iran war. Republican Sen. Ron Johnson said the government should not interfere with free speech, while Democrats including Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Chris Murphy called the threat unconstitutional.”

Gin's avatar

Jaw dropping. He seldom surprises me anymore but this time he did. Private National Security Briefings???? This man is beyond insane.

Kathy Hagar's avatar

“When one reporter is shut down, the next one asks the same question. And the next one after that. An attack on one journalist is an attack on all of them. And the male reporter who said “Thank you, sir” after Trump silenced his female colleague needs to hear from his peers that silence in that moment was complicity.”

Yes, yes, yes!!! This is a simple but effective tactic to deal with an unacceptable situation.
