Trump destroyed 15 years of progress with one stroke of the pen

The Trump administration announced one of the most sweeping environmental rollbacks in modern U.S. history by revoking the EPA’s 2009 “endangerment finding,” the scientific determination that greenhouse gases threaten public health and the legal foundation for regulating emissions from cars, trucks, and power plants. The move eliminates the federal government’s core authority to limit climate pollution, a change experts warn could allow billions of additional tons of emissions in the coming decades while increasing risks of asthma, heart disease, extreme heat, and climate-driven disasters.

The Trump administration tried to sell it as a benefit to the American people, saying it would make products “cheaper.” But the reality is that ending these regulations benefits automakers and manufacturers and increases their profits, while harming the planet and everyone who lives on it.

At the same time, Trump directed the Pentagon to enter long-term contracts for coal-generated electricity and ordered $175 million in federal funding to support coal plants, a step critics describe as a taxpayer-funded boost for the fossil fuel industry.

And all of this was happening while we were on the verge of yet another partial government shutdown centered on a funding fight for the Department of Homeland Security, with Senate Democrats demanding limits on immigration enforcement tactics after aggressive federal operations in Minnesota led to chaos, cruelty, and the deaths of two U.S. citizens. And they have public support. Polling now shows 6 in 10 Americans believe Trump has gone too far on immigration, including a strong majority of independents.

A Federal Reserve Bank of New York report also found that Americans were saddled with nearly 90 percent of the cost of Trump’s tariffs in 2025 as average tariff rates rose from 2.6 percent to 13 percent, contradicting claims that foreign countries pay the price. Because we all know tariffs are taxes on the American people.
