Trump accidentally told us why he’s doing all of this
"They'll do this to me"
On Saturday afternoon, the President of the United States was abruptly pulled off his golf course and rushed into his motorcade without explanation. When reporters pressed for answers, the White House said it was a “planned” dental visit, on a Saturday, at a local office, that appeared nowhere on his official schedule. No dentist was named. No procedure was described. No physician issued a statement. The pool reporter was not allowed to see him. And the White House dental operatory that has served every president since Hoover sat unused. As one cardiologist and former vice presidential physician put it: “There’s been such lack of candor about the health of the president that even a visit to the dentist raises questions.”
But the secrecy around his health was only one piece of a weekend designed to distort what is plainly in front of us. After the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, Republican-controlled states moved immediately. Louisiana suspended its House primary after early voting had already started, throwing out ballots already cast. Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi called special sessions to redraw maps. Florida approved new maps within hours. Estimates suggest as many as twenty new Republican-leaning House seats could be drawn before November, most by dismantling majority-Black districts. And the president posted on Truth Social demanding that Louisiana voters be forced to “vote twice” under redrawn maps, dismissing their already-cast ballots as a matter of “convenience.”
The weekend revealed a systematic attack on the three pillars that hold up a free country, all happening at once. The courts are being used to strip voter protections. Elections are being rewritten mid-stream with ballots thrown out and maps redrawn to manufacture a majority before November. And the press is being squeezed from every direction, with the president demanding Fox News stop giving attention to Bill Maher on the air and the FCC ordering Disney to file early license renewals. But a new Washington Post-ABC-Ipsos poll shows his approval at 37 percent, the worst of both terms combined. He is underwater on every issue measured. Nearly six in ten Americans say he does not have the mental sharpness to serve. He is not raging on social media because he is winning. He is raging because the floor is collapsing. And November is coming.
