At 6:58 pm, Donald Trump slowly made his way across the stage in Wichita, Kansas, just after a deeply disturbing video was played for the audience explaining all of the reasons that “God made Trump.” The reasons for his holy creation included his friendships with the authoritarian leaders of China and North Korea, his love of kissing the American flag, and that one time Melania slipped and Donald Trump didn’t let her fall. While images of his supposed greatness played on the screen, a narrator said, “God had to have somebody willing to go into the den of vipers and call out the fake news… So God made Trump.”
That was just the start of one of the most racist and un-American 1 hour and 37 minutes our country has ever seen, where Donald Trump laid out his dangerous plan for how he intends to completely dismantle the United States. But when he finally launched into his prepared remarks, he wasn't the only one with something to say. Throughout his speech, he was interrupted by protesters six times, including one woman screaming ‘I f*cking hate you!’ directly at him, while others caused lengthy disruptions that left Donald Trump growing more annoyed with each one.
Where is that delegation of Republican congressional reps? The ones who will go to the whitehouse and say enough is enough. Cowering behind chairs, or sacks of cash? They will be remembered for their cowardice.
Thank you for sharing the story about the nurses who took care of you. That part really stood out—kindness and competence shouldn’t be reduced to someone’s background. Appreciate you putting that reminder out there.
I just was in hospital in the U.K., where I was struck by the highly capable and empathic staff whose origins spanned the globe. Multiculturalism at its finest.
Thank you, Heather, for this compassionate and complete report on everything Trump has done to sullen the name of our country, as if a billboard left up too long and is now ruined by rain, snow, and other elements. But again, as I have often whined, Trump is beyond recovery. He is mad, and not the emotional kind, like in certifiably crazy. And yet his party, hiding by now with gags to prevent any accidental slurs, believe they are out of firing range. Trump will get his due; I am sure of it. But what about Republicans who stood by as watching a carnival act. They deserve more than our disdain. Will shame that lasts a lifetime suffice?
Thank you, wonderful Heather. My brave husband is right now in Mission Hospital being cared for by the very troop of angels you wrote of. I love that you use your gifts to shine light on the dark places, and you remind us that in two weeks, WE SHALL OVERCOME.
I too love your story of your experience in the hospital and the kindness that you were shown by the kind people who helped you.Wishing there were more kindness in this world.
Six years ago, my late husband had a stroke and was hospitalised, put in an induced coma from which he never really emerged. I was only allowed to see him for a few minutes at a time and when he was briefly transferred to an extended care facility, I wasn’t even allowed inside the door—I had to talk to staff and sign documents out on the sidewalk. Then he was admitted to a different hospital and, because the doctors realised things were hopeless, I was allowed to stay with him until life support was removed. It was awful! But the doctors and nurses were wonderful and I’ll never forget their kindness.
This all happened in the California desert and I’ve since moved back to the U.K. where we have the National Health Service. I keep hearing about the abuse that immigrant nurses, doctors and other medical professionals have to put up with and it disgusts me. British workers aren’t willing to work for what healthcare workers can earn so we are lucky that those immigrants are there to help take care of us. My brothers tell me that way too many Brits are racist then they complain that they can’t get medical appointments or hospital procedures. I personally have received nothing but the best treatment from them and appreciate them more than I can say.
Trump’s incompetence in handling the pandemic didn’t disqualify him in the eyes of many voters. His corruption hasn’t disqualified him, either. His cognitive decline hasn’t hurt him, and his hatred for people of color seems to embolden his followers, not sicken them.
Can they be hearing what we hear, seeing what we see? They’ve apparently decided that he is their messiah, and his words are God’s judgment on the world. He can do no wrong. Prices, wars, corruption, Epstein files — all forgiveable sins. “He hates the people we hate!”
Your story about health care workers of all backgrounds coming together illustrates so well the kindness of so many Americans. We are and will fight back against this evil regime. I have hope too and I’m incredibly grateful for your strong voice. Please don’t stop.
Thank you for your continued posts. We live in very scary times indeed. My thought on the hatred of immigrants always goes back to tRump's wife and her family. They are all immigrants. Are they naturalized citizens? Perhaps they should all be sent back to Uncle Vlad? What is good for one should be good for all.
We are a NATION of immigrants…every single one of us..unless we are Native Americans ..are from parents or grandparents or great grandparents etc who CAME FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE. Including Donald J Trump and his wives..the mothers of his children. How his current Slovenian wife and her father can listen to his lying rants is far beyond my comprehension but we should take it for what it really is…dog whistles to gin up groups of very shallow .unenlightened..unintelligent people to do his bidding..fight..name call ..scream at anyone they don’t like to disrupt and distract.
Other than being aware of the true motives for what he’s doing and saying now..move on.
Do what we need to do and don’t let anything or anyone get in the way.
Heather is right..this is not going to go well for him ..it’s already backfiring so he will get worse..stay out of their way..don’t give them what they want which is an excuse to fight ..treat them as if they were invisible..nothingness ..that is what they ARE.
We will get though this if enough good people..REAL people band together and do the RIGHT thing..BELIEVE.

I know that hate has no place.... but I do kind of hate trump and his followers. I'm tired of feeling this way, too.
Trump taught me the definition of hate.

I hope this basket of deplorables in his audience is recognized by their employers and promptly given the boot. Who ARE these horrid people?
