Isn’t what Trump is doing treasonous? So if he is accused of treason, that puts a bullseye on his back as well, doesn’t it?

Brenda's avatar

Doing something that is treasonous is one thing. But there needs to be someone to hold him accountable. All he does is because he is not held accountable and he knows it. If the past is any indication, the day will come.

Trump’s weaponized IRS has been financially raping me for months, taking my entire annual pension and a portion of an inheritance from my dead mother. Now we know the money will be used to pay off cronies and fund more corruption. Perfect. I’ve complained repeatedly, hired advocates they refuse to talk to, been lied to and avoided repeatedly. They refuse to negotiate fairly and I cannot afford the $40k I’ve been quoted by lawyers to help. Pro bono firms are backed up with others in similar situations apparently. So the cruelty continues. The whole system is rigged. They have also revoked my passport, causing me to lose both my job as well as access to affordable and critical medical care. I’m $40k in debt from trying to stay alive to fight this indecency. For what point now, sometimes I’m not even sure anymore. I’m old, tired, and have a host of complicated and rare conditions. Maybe it’s just my time. I have never wanted to be an American less than I do right now. No more energy to fight for democracy.

I have a spare room, on the other side of the world. Get your passport back get out. Its gonna get real nasty.

You are not wrong. Sadly. I used to have a tiny apartment on a small Greek island where I lived and worked part time for several years before this nightmare began. That normal life seems so distant these days. Everything sits in storage now, the debris of a life I’m no longer sure I will see again. Your offer is kind and appreciated. But I really wonder sometimes if I’ll ever make it out again.

With all due respect, what are those of us who have no official status, and have only our vote, going to do to aid journalism in this endeavor when the other journalists in the room won’t even stand up for their fellow colleagues? I understand they are afraid of losing access to the president, but that is part of the whole point, isn’t it? I’m with Jeff Tiedrich on this one: first journalist gets my vote when they say, “What the fuck is wrong with you?” Others will follow, and it will get air time!

Thanks Heather as always for showing up every night and telling the truth to those of us who still believe it matters.

January 6th was a turning point for the integrity of our government- it should have been the end of Trump’s power grab, resulting in rejection of him and his brand of BS and lies.

Instead it was the direct opposite. The absence of consequences emboldened him and those behind him looking to profit with the same freedom from “troublesome” concepts like ethics, integrity, or basic human decency.

As he fuels and funds his corruption, our job to stop it gets more difficult by the day. I am proud to support you and your voice. Keep sharing the truth - it’s the power of resistance and our best antidote for corruption.

Heather, this is an absolute nightmare. To call David Sanger, the NY Times WH correspondent, treasonous for asking a perfectly legitimate question about the war in Iran says all you need to know about this despicable man. Donald, didn't you know that America has a free press? Isn't it one of the components of the Constitution? Though I doubt you've ever studied it.

And if the orange buffoon thinks he will win the law suit against the BBC for their Panorama programme, he's got another think coming. For one thing the programme wasn't shown in America. I didn't actually see the programme but all that happened was his rambling speech about the insurgents at the WH was edited. They certainly couldn't show his whole speech because of the time factor. As for the BBC being a fake out, Donald the BBC has been around since 1922.

Keep posting Heather. The country (and the rest of the world) needs people like you.

I know it is dangerous for you to continue writing daily telling the truth, but you must keep doing so. Thank you for every post you write. God bless you, America the democracy, and those of us that truly know what is occurring. May you continue to have strength, clarity of thought, and your crystal clear insight.

How can they think that they can get away with this?

I remember a quote from Batman :

"There's a storm coming, Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us."

The cornered rat is getting increasingly dangerous.

Is his end game really burning the whole thing down?

What the US needs now is an all powerful, all wise board of jurists to put an end to what seems to be the inevitable destruction of a country. I wonder where such an august and honest body might be found?

Do any of you who might be versed in constitutional law know if it is possible for ordinary citizens/taxpayers to individually or as a class bring suit against the DOJ and IRS to prevent this "settlement?"

Bruce Travis's avatar

You want leverage Jonathon? Article 1 Section 2 Clause 3 USC. The biggest con ever perpetrated on the American people was the 16th Amrndment in 1913 which DID NOT repeal Article 1 Section 2 Clause 3 USC. Every person in America needs to know this. The 16th Amendment only pertains to indirect and not direct taxes. Trump’s Congress is doing what Congress did in 1913; take the power away from We The People by taking their money. Heather, read it for yourself. Read the Substack commentary on the 16th Amendment.

Just because he says it out loud Doesn’t magically make it so …

“Treason is the crime of betraying one’s country…”

The terrible truth is just as George Orwell said:

“ In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act”

The press is asking questions that need answers for clarification and reasoning.

When will this shortest war in American history be truly over?

And what about those Epstein files still not released ?

Heather, thank you! I am still hopeful for an outcome that will allow my sons and grandchildren to live peacefully and safely. I agree that my dog Tommy gets me through my days, while I explain what is happening. He will outlive me and my soul will be with him. He is already a resistance dog with 1 no Kings protest in Providence RI 🐕😂

Chilling. Terrifying! These lines nail the truth: "We are less than six months from the midterms. Six months from the only thing standing between this country and a fully consolidated authoritarian government."

I am the child and grandchild of Holocaust survivors. I see the same things happening in the US today as my grandparents saw happening in Germany in the 1930s. At 83, I am too old to flee, but I don't blame others who feel they must; however, I plead with younger people to stay and protest, to fight if they must, and to end the tyranny of Trump's regime. Even at my age, I can picket and stand in protest. And I give to groups who help those who are facing Fascist injustice. My hope is to live long enough to see the end of the current madness rather than the end of my beloved country.

Most Americans either aren’t paying attention or don’t care. They have ignored most everything until the price of gas went up. Who is going to step up and stop the madness? I fear no one will.

Richard Dorset's avatar

We have become a decadent country of people who don’t understand and don’t care what is required to be a participating citizen. THAT is how Trump was elected twice, because Americans have no comprehension that the relative (to the rest of the world) comfort we live in is the result of the structure of our government and that democracy must be constantly tended and nurtured, like a garden, to stay vital.
