I’m a Brit with family in the US. Thank you for your insights into the terrible situation in your country. Please do all you can to stay safe in these perilous times

I moved from beautiful blue Chicago to ruby red SW Florida eight years ago, and I'm really sorry to have to say that the America you describe in horrific terms actually IS our country, down here. I'm convinced, after these eight fairly miserable years, that the most selfish people in the world live in Florida -- ugh! But there are small pockets of resistance, and it's for those beautiful folks that we stay here. Together with them, we keep working hard, every week and almost every day now, on voter outreach and education. And every morning, your columns give me hope. Onward!

I often look at my dog curled in her cozy bed and wish the same.

Voting day is the 3rd of November - Guy Fawkes day is the 5th of November my thinking is a RED HAT bonfire would be wonderful.

I have never been a fan of baseball hats but Trump has made Red ones abhorrent, not least he should not wear one with a suit !

Rooting for Y’all on the 3rd guys - go get em

Stirring stuff Heather. I just wish your efforts weren’t necessary. We watch on with horror from the UK. But does it cut through to the general public in the US? That is hard to gauge from here. Our own adversarial parliamentary system is far from perfect but it is the job of the official Opposition to constantly monitor everything the government does, and call it out when necessary, whichever party is in the “hot seat” at the time. I can’t see that happening in the US apart from brave journalists and people like yourself? Where is the outrage? And the accountability? Where is the Democrat party? And more to the point, where are all the decent Republicans? How can they let this happen?

Please take more puppy time as I worry for you 🫣💕 X

This is exactly what I was thinking as I read today's column from Heather. I'm so angry that the US has got to this state and cannot for the life of me understand why the whole country isn't up in arms over this (not literally with guns!). I agree that in the UK we would be a lot more vocal if our leaders were as vile as Trump!

Another Brit with family in the US. The world is looking to you guys to do the right thing and mitigate the awfulness of the present situation. We are suffering the effects of one man’s ego and there’s not a lot we can do. Thanks for your informative insights, Heather and Pete (hope Pete is fully recovered!)

Heather, I have to say that this made very grim reading, but also out of all your superb posts this one was even more so. It did make me wonder whether there will come a point where your closing statement changes - I hope and pray it doesn’t but one never knows. As other subscribers have said, stay safe, I am concerned for you and yours. With respect and admiration from the U.K.

Agree with you on all of this. Hard to have hope, but I do try. You highlighted so much of this horror show, yet there’s so much more. Epstein, unparalleled corruption, just plain dumb stuff like “super intelligence” or whatever that idiot thought to call it and on and on. Having recently travelled to Amsterdam and Berlin with the US Holocaust Memorial Museum,it was terrifying to see how this happened before. We must do all we can to stop it. Speak out, protest, donate, volunteer and, most importantly, vote in November, if we have elections. Thanks for your inspiration.

Perfectly said. Be sure everyone you know is encouraged to vote to help stop the madness. Post far and wide!

Heather, I give all of you on my Substack reads so much credit, I can't imagine the awful threats you receive!! We stream our channels but last evening we were on CBS and trumps slowly walking ad came on, he's disgusting!!! I pray for everyone to be able to vote safely!! We will all be holding our breath for November 3rd to be over but so leary as to what happens next. Yes, stay safe!!

Heather, I appreciate your daily work and love how you make reality something real. I'm so tired of the awful things our president says and does. I will vote in November and am proud to be an American Democrat.

Our country needs another Thomas Jefferson to start rebuilding the USA and our relationships with our allies.

Thank you for all you do. I'm sure your work is exhausting.
