This Halloween, the Monster Is in the White House
Happy Halloween, everyone! Forget the costumes. Forget the haunted houses. The real horror is knowing that a man who can’t string together a coherent sentence is once again holding the nuclear codes and controlling whether people get to eat or not.
And in the spirit of the season, I thought I’d give you something truly spooky: Trump’s own words.
If you’ve never seen his late-night rants on Truth Social, what I jokingly call Trash Social, there’s a site called “Trump’s Truths” that archives everything he posts. That’s where I go, so I don’t have to log onto his propaganda network directly.
Most days, I check it in passing. But my favorite time to scroll through it is late at night, right before bed, because that’s when he really lets loose. It’s also great if you prefer nightmares over dreams while you sleep.
Warning: the man is unwell. His posts are often unhinged, rambling, and disconnected from reality. And while I don’t always include them in my daily posts, last night’s tirade was too much to ignore and is the perfect thing to share on Halloween.
I want to pause to acknowledge the real-life fear so many of you are facing right now. If you’re one of the millions of Americans worried about losing access to SNAP benefits, worried about feeding your kids, your family, or yourself, I see you.
The good news is, there may be some light at the end of this tunnel. As I shared a couple of days ago, there’s a five-to-six-billion-dollar emergency fund that was set aside for exactly this situation. And it looks like the courts are beginning to step in to force Trump to release it.
In one of his Truth Social posts today, he actually says it would be “his honor” to release the money. To help. To feed people.
But let’s be clear. He could have done that weeks ago. He didn’t. And the delay is the point.
He doesn’t care if families suffer. He doesn’t care if kids go hungry. He’s using this shutdown, his Republican shutdown, as leverage. Because he’s not willing to let people have both healthcare and food. He thinks we should choose. Pick one. Only the rich get both.

“Our Government lawyers do not think we have the legal authority to pay SNAP with certain monies we have available, and now two Courts have issued conflicting opinions on what we can and cannot do. I do NOT want Americans to go hungry just because the Radical Democrats refuse to do the right thing and REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT. Therefore, I have instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible. It is already delayed enough due to the Democrats keeping the Government closed through the monthly payment date and, even if we get immediate guidance, it will unfortunately be delayed while States get the money out. If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding, just like I did with Military and Law Enforcement Pay. The Democrats should quit this charade where they hurt people for their own political reasons, and immediately REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT.”
Let’s break this down. Trump claims he doesn’t want Americans to go hungry. But this crisis didn’t start because Democrats failed to act. It started because Trump orchestrated a shutdown on purpose. He controls the entire government. This did not have to happen. He could have released the emergency money weeks ago. He chose not to. Instead, he’s now pretending the issue is legal red tape, blaming “Radical Democrats,” and acting like he’s helpless while still holding the power and refusing to use it. This isn’t just a policy debate. This is starvation being used as a political weapon. It’s cruelty wrapped in propaganda. And he is using the oldest scam in the dictator playbook. Create an issue and then pretend you are the only person who can solve it. And to his brainwashed followers, they will believe he is.

“I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House. It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era. I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!”
This is what Donald Trump is focused on. While the government is shut down, while families are running out of food, while millions are about to lose access to healthcare, he’s talking about marble and how he spent government money to remodel a bathroom he doesn’t like.
In the middle of a national crisis, he’s stripping away real parts of our shared history and replacing them with whatever feeds his vanity. All while pretending to care about Americans who are suffering under policies he created.

This one reads like a manifesto, and I don’t blame you at all if you just want to skim this meltdown.
“I just got back from Asia where I met the Leaders of many Countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and others. It was a Great Honor to meet them but, more particularly, to see that America is respected again — RESPECTED LIKE NEVER BEFORE! Great Trade Deals were made, Long Term relationships now exist, and money is pouring into our Country because of Tariffs and, frankly, the Landslide Results of the 2024 Presidential Election. The one question that kept coming up, however, was how did the Democrats SHUT DOWN the United States of America, and why did the powerful Republicans allow them to do it? The fact is, in flying back, I thought a great deal about that question, WHY?
Majority Leader John Thune, and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, are doing a GREAT job, but the Democrats are Crazed Lunatics that have lost all sense of WISDOM and REALITY. It is a sick form of the now “legendary” Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) that only comes from losing too much. They want Trillions of Dollars to be taken from our Healthcare System and given to others, who are not deserving — People who have come into our Country illegally, many from prisons and mental institutions. This will hurt American citizens, and Republicans will not let it happen. It is now time for the Republicans to play their “TRUMP CARD,” and go for what is called the Nuclear Option — Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW! Just a short while ago, the Democrats, while in power, fought for three years to do this, but were unable to pull it off because of Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona. Never have the Democrats fought so hard to do something because they knew the tremendous strength that terminating the Filibuster would give them. They want to substantially expand (PACK!) the United States Supreme Court, make Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico States (Thereby automatically picking up 4 Senate seats, many House seats, and at least 8 Electoral Votes!), and many other highly destructive things. Well, now WE are in power, and if we did what we should be doing, it would IMMEDIATELY end this ridiculous, Country destroying “SHUT DOWN.” If the Democrats ever came back into power, which would be made easier for them if the Republicans are not using the Great Strength and Policies made available to us by ending the Filibuster, the Democrats will exercise their rights, and it will be done in the first day they take office, regardless of whether or not we do it. In addition to all of the other things we would get, such as the best Judges, the best U.S. Attorneys, the best of everything, this was a concept from years ago of then President Barack Hussein Obama and former Majority Leader Harry Reid in order to take advantage of the Republicans. Now I want to do it in order to take advantage of the Democrats….”
A late-night, unhinged, rambling tirade from a clearly unwell man. Over 700 words long. Filled with baseless conspiracy, authoritarian fantasies, and repeated calls for permanent GOP rule.
And he’s not even hiding the motive when he says: “Now I want to do it in order to take advantage of the Democrats…”
He talks about the “Nuclear Option” while holding nuclear codes. He rages about expanding voting rights as if it’s an act of war. He calls Democrats “Crazed Lunatics” while demanding absolute power for himself.
And if this all feels familiar, it is. Because history has seen this before.
When Benito Mussolini rose to power in Italy, he told the people they were finally respected again. That he alone could restore their greatness. He filled city squares with marble, rebranded state buildings with his name, and convinced Italians to trade rights for the illusion of strength.
Just like Trump now claims, “America is respected again, RESPECTED LIKE NEVER BEFORE!”
When Adolf Hitler came to power, he used a national crisis to declare an emergency. He insisted the chaos was caused by others. He blamed the left. He blamed immigrants. Then he stripped away checks on his power. Just like Trump is doing now, manufacturing the shutdown, then using it to expand power and control.
When Senator Joe McCarthy launched his Red Scare witch hunts, he labeled opponents insane, dangerous, or enemies of the state. Trump’s own words: “The Democrats are Crazed Lunatics that have lost all sense of WISDOM and REALITY…”
And when Richard Nixon tried to use the DOJ to go after his political enemies, he was stopped by the courts. Trump is doing that now, but this time he has presidential immunity on his side. Can you imagine if we had had this same Supreme Court during the Nixon years?
This isn’t new. None of it is. The one thing that we have going for those of us on the right side of history is… history. We know how this plays out. The other side is thankfully lazy and just using the same old worn-out playbooks. This is our greatest advantage, if we are willing to learn from it and act before it’s too late.
So yes, it’s Halloween. But the real horror isn’t in ghost stories or shadows. It’s in the light of day, right out in the open. It’s in a president who posts bathroom updates while children go hungry. Who threatens nuclear options in the same breath he blames others for the chaos he caused. Who rants and rambles into the night while families sit in dark kitchens, wondering how they’ll afford food and medicine.
This isn’t just embarrassing. It’s terrifying. And the scariest thing we could do right now is nothing. Let’s keep going. Let’s keep peacefully fighting back. Let’s keep protesting. Let’s keep sharing the truth and calling out the disinformation.
The future of America is counting on it.
