"They are sick individuals" - Trump’s newest speech is insane

At a high school gymnasium in Marietta, Georgia, the President of the United States crossed the stage in a few steps at a time, stopping to catch his breath, his eyes swollen and struggling to stay open. He was there to promote Trump Accounts, and it took him nearly 25 minutes to mention them. What followed was 77 minutes of distraction. But the most disappointing moment came from where he had been just hours earlier. He had come from Dover Air Force Base, from the dignified transfer ceremony for four service members killed in the Iran conflict, and he brought one of the families with him on Air Force One. Then, with them standing there listening, he said this about the fallen: “I read charts on all of the young people and some are unbelievable. Some were a little bit, you know, they got a little bit of a little couple of little bad things put in.” He called Dover “an incredible place,” as though it were a resort and not where we receive our dead. That family deserved better. They all did.

The rest was spectacle by design. He called the press “sick individuals,” claimed communists want to blow up Mount Rushmore, and declared that communism, which he insists is what Democrats practice, is a greater threat than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, and 9/11 combined. He is manufacturing an enemy so monstrous that anything done to stop them will feel justified. He admitted the White House ballroom is really “a big military facility” with “a drone port on top.” He used an official presidential speech to tell people to go buy a donor’s computers. And on affordability, the single most damaging issue facing his presidency, he tried to make the word itself illegitimate, claiming Democrats invented it, before insisting he had already given families “thousands and thousands of dollars.” People know the truth, because they see their bank balances and they see what groceries cost.

And while he created chaos on that stage, his administration was quietly signing one of the most dangerous agreements in decades. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and his Saudi counterpart signed a thirty-year nuclear cooperation deal that opens a pathway for the kingdom to enrich its own uranium. When the UAE signed a comparable agreement in 2009, it accepted the gold standard: no enrichment, full international inspections. Saudi Arabia refused, and this administration agreed to drop it, requiring Trump to sign a national security waiver to move forward. This is the same Saudi Arabia whose Crown Prince said they would pursue a weapon if Iran did, and who ordered the murder of a journalist inside their own consulate. Marco Rubio once cosponsored legislation requiring those exact safeguards. As Secretary of State, he is now defending their absence. All of this while Trump wages war on Iran to stop nuclear proliferation.

We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better our chances of pushing back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.
