There is something very wrong with the president

The President of the United States just posted an AI video of himself dumping diarrhea on the American people.

Some nights, I have to stop and sit with the insanity of what I am writing. There has never been a moment in my life when I imagined that the president of the United States would do something like this, or that I would ever have to write about it and describe it. Now both of these things are starting to feel more like a normal Sunday night instead of the very disturbing situation it actually is.

Because the man who holds the nuclear codes and commands the world’s most powerful military shared an AI video that shows him piloting a fighter jet while releasing torrents of brown feces onto Americans below. The targets appear to be the protesters at the No Kings rallies, citizens using their voices, exercising their First Amendment right to free speech. And the President responds by showing human excrement dripping down their faces.

There is no universe in which this is a presidential act. And there is no time in history or any situation that would warrant this kind of behavior from a sitting president.

And the people featured in that fake AI video were not anonymous, computer‑generated figures. They were real young activists with recognizable faces and names, the same people who have been standing up against the cruelty and chaos of the Trump regime.

He might have been the one to actually “post” the AI Video, but someone else most likely made the video. And someone approved it. And someone thought it was acceptable for the president to broadcast a digital assault on his own citizens. Who are those people? Who is enabling a clearly unwell, elderly man who no longer seems to grasp the consequences of his actions? Who is actually running this government?

Because this is not only reckless and demeaning, it is terrifying. It is the behavior of a man unfit for the office he holds, and of a circle of enablers who no longer seem to know the difference between governing and spectacle.

And the real question we all should be asking is: If this were our grandfather, and he was saying the concerning statements he keeps making and posting things such as this, while simultaneously holding one of, if not the most, important offices in the world, we would already be on the phone with his doctor. There would be a serious discussion happening in the family text thread. A family member would be driving over to check on him. This would be a pivotal moment for him and the whole family. There might not even be time for Google searches like “personality change elderly,” “dementia symptoms,” or “care facilities,” because we’d be en route to the hospital to make sure there isn’t a urinary tract infection brewing that could be causing this type of delirium.

You would be terrified, not angry or amused. You would act.

But this is not your grandfather. This is the President of the United States. And he is surrounded by enablers who would rather prop up whatever he is and whatever he is going through to keep their own power.

Because Kristi Noem’s not paying herself for the $172 million for two new Gulfstream G700 jets that the Department of Homeland Security just ordered. She needs to keep this façade of a government going so she can feel powerful and important as she flies around the country terrorizing both citizens and migrants. This is a clear example of why those around him don’t stop this madness, they encourage it.

And the AI embarrassment didn’t stop there.

Last night, the White House shared an image of the president and J.D. Vance wearing crowns, both appearing to be queens. It was an unintentional slip when they created the image, since it shows both of them wearing a queen’s crown instead of a king’s. The post read, “We’re built different. Have a good night, everyone.” Along with another AI image of House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer wearing sombreros again. That was an official feed share. A deliberately racist and juvenile post.

Back to that AI fighter jet video, featuring activist Harry Sisson, who asked this:

“Can a reporter please ask Trump why he posted an AI video of himself dropping poop on me from a fighter jet? That would be great thanks.”

A simple and necessary question: Why is the President of the United States doing this?

And instead of the Vice President stepping in and being the voice of reason, J.D. Vance responds on social media with: “I’ll ask him, Harry.”

That exchange captures the surreal choreography of this moment. It was a nod to the whole administration being in on it. That they are all not serious people. They are not fit to run a coin-operated gumball machine, let alone the United States of America.

Two days earlier, when asked why there was a proposed meeting to discuss a possible end to the war in Ukraine in Hungary, specifically, the question was “Who picked Budapest?”, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded with: “Your mom did.”

Moments later, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung added the more typical teen reply: “Your mom.”

So I ask again: who is running this country? And what is actually left of the functionality of it at all?

Because it feels like the millions who poured into the streets at the thousands of No Kings rallies across the country this weekend still believe that we have something worth fighting for, even when the people in power are treating everything like a reality show on the verge of cancellation.

But Trump doesn’t see that. He expects to rule forever.

He even shared another odd video of himself lingering behind a yard sign with a strange look on his face as it changed from “Trump 2024,” to “Trump 2028,” all the way to “Trump 5000,” and then “Trump forever.”

This isn’t just one of his run-of-the-mill propaganda videos. This one goes beyond that. It’s meant to train his supporters to see this as a very real possibility. That he can rule for as long as he’s alive. And they want that too.

They have no rules. No lines they can’t cross. They can be as crude and cruel as they like and be rewarded as Trump’s very special soldiers.

Make no mistake about responsibility.

Every aide who shows him these clips. Every communications director who approves them. Every social media manager who hits post. Every cabinet member who sits in the room where this behavior is normalized. They are enabling harm for attention and for profit. They are complicit in treating the presidency like a private stage instead of the stewardship of a nation.

And it’s not just his White House inner circle. Congress is not off the hook.

Lawmakers confirmed many of the people now orchestrating these spectacles. Their votes put the machinery of this administration in place. Their complacency and silence are part of the chain of responsibility.

This is not partisan theater. It is a question of fitness.

If this were your relative, you would not let him keep the keys.
If this were your neighbor, you would call adult protective services.
If this were a CEO publicly humiliating staff and making grandiose false claims, shareholders would demand an independent assessment.

Why should the presidency be exempt from that basic standard of competence and safety?

Prepare for escalation. There is no reason for him or his cronies to stop or even slow down. But if we can somehow break through, we must, even if it makes things worse before it gets better.

Leaders who feel their grip slipping take desperate risks. That is a historical fact. Desperation produces spectacle. And spectacle produces more danger.

When the history books catalogue his presidency, what has happened so far, and what is to come in the weeks and months ahead, this week will be among the highlighted sections.

Notably, the president posted a video of himself defecating on citizens, and the White House amplified racist, demeaning AI images.

But it will also note that millions marched and said no to the destruction of our country.
It will note that people rose up, even when they felt powerless.
That we stood shoulder to shoulder, on streets and sidewalks, in city squares and suburban parks, saying:
We see what is happening.
We are not looking away.
And we are not done fighting for what comes next.

Because we still believe something better is possible.
And we’re not giving up.
