At 8:30 p.m. last night, the President of the United States sat on the stage in the Ballroom of the Hilton in Washington, D.C. He was there attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner for the first time as a sitting president. For years, after being publicly mocked by then-President Obama, Donald Trump had refused to return. By 8:36 p.m., chaos had erupted just a floor above, and it reached them almost instantly. Within seconds, Vice President J.D. Vance was grabbed by the shoulders, yanked from his chair, and rushed off the stage. Trump remained seated on the stage longer before agents eventually descended on him, shouting for everyone to stay down as they moved to secure him. As they worked to take him to safety offstage, he stumbled and collapsed to the floor, forcing agents to lift him back to his feet and practically carry him away.
Just one question: why was VP Vance ushered out first, or was he quicker off the mark than the orange buffoon? Trump seemed rooted to his seat. He seemed like a cat caught in the headlights.
Because Vance is more mobile and isn't a massive obese dead weight like Trump. So Vance would be better able to assist in his own escape. It's triage: if it were a real threat, It would be much harder to rescue Trump.
To me the most significant points were Heather's noting that "maybe his distance from reality [i.e. the last person to notice the crisis happening around him] is because he’s not living in it"; the video showing two strong men virtually lifting him out of his chair to his feet; and the fact that on his way out he stumbled and fell, and had again to be lifted to his feet. Evidence of his living in a bubble of insanity; and of his obvious physical decline. Moments of truth.
Or his unconcern was because he knew it was all staged. If it had been real, no doubt he would have been incoherent in his remarks, rather than delivering a (more or less) reasoned defense of his harebrained ballroom.
That was certainly the way I saw it. And he's a really, really bad actor. If the others knew what was coming, they were arguably able to act like they didn't. And if they did't know, then they really were surprised - but probably not THAT surprised.
Trump looked the same way in this intense situation, that he did when someone passed out in the Oval Office. He just stood by, looking vacant and, certainly, unconcerned. I do not believe he lives with any real sense of situational awareness. Not being "in the moment" is a scary thought - and look - for a President.
As always, Heather is objective and precise. And she provides a good keyword: Nuremberg Trial. The prospect of demanding comprehensive accountability of the accomplices and porfiteurs makes the midterms even more important. After 2028, this will no longer be possible. The cancer of mistrust will then have infected all organs of society.

I totally believe that last night was a sham in order to boost ratings and try to get his stupid ballroom built. I agree, last night on the news, there was follow through on a trial of a man who shot a police officer, I don’t think we will see any follow through, any trial, anything going forward about this beyond this week, which will surely mean it was a performance, not an emergency.
We may or may not ever know the truth about what happened on Saturday night. We do know they all lie . We’ve read Aesop about the boy who cried wolf. We know what our own eyes see and our ears hear. We can speculate and hypothesize and analyze and maybe get to the truth but our focus must stay on the endgame in November.
I believe what Heather has written today…there IS a plan for what comes after..we WILL have justice by the rule of law..by our Constitution..we will KEEP the Republic and secure it for future generations. If we fight for that and WIN we will have done our jobs…we will have gone the distance and we will have prevailed. That we WILL know for sure.
I believe we must have hope…we must have confidence..we must believe we can do this..it is the Manifest Destiny of our time and I truly believe in positive thinking especially against evil odds! Keep the faith!
Given that the would be assassin was a floor away when stopped this is hard to justify as a need for anything. The banquet attendees were never in actual danger; only in their own minds, after the fact. This is also true at the same time. Sheesh.

The Miami F1 Grand Prix is this coming weekend and in that event when a driver commits a serious error causing others problems he is Black-flagged and has to exit the race. THIS is how the people need to react to Mr Trump’s seriously problematic activities if they feel he is not acting in a ‘presidential’ manner.
BLACK flags all over the country (on an auspicious occasion like 4th July) will send a much stronger message than any singing protest - even more so if the two symbolic actions are combined.
Trump HEARS nothing that he cannot twist to his own ends but he cannot twist a defiant demonstration of the people’s will which tells him “Enough is enough!”
The stars who have the courage to stand up and encourage the masses to stand up to his ‘antics’ need their own flag to SHOW the president that he has reached and over-stepped the limits of his powers too many times.

I wish people could see that violence does nothing but help those they want to harm. We need to fix things, not resort to senseless violence.
