At 2 p.m. this afternoon, the President of the United States sat down, clasped his hands, leaned forward, and with a weak voice, he told the reporter seated right in front of him that “there are no limits” to his power.
This comes after a long night of travel from the G7 summit in France, back to Joint Base Andrews, and then on to the White House, where a visibly worn-down Donald Trump sat for an interview with Marc Caputo for the Axios show. And in a clip shared tonight, he offered a troubling glimpse into how he views the limits of his presidential power at a moment when his party risks losing control of Congress in the midterms.
And the G7 leaders know that too as evidenced with Macron’s skilful dangling of the bright shiny visit to Versailles to keep Trump at the conference
Europe allowing Canada to be part of the EU is another step in the world weaving a web that brings us closer together whilst keeping the US at arms length until it has regained its sanity and the man who announces I’m the boss well and truly isn’t

Hearing the details of the interview between Trump and Marc Caputo was sadly not the least bit surprising because every day he goes farther off the deep end in his belief of his power and authority over not only Americans but the world. He has totally spun out.

Ok, fine, Cassidy, Scott, Thune, and Wicker you said it but I don't know if you ever voted against him. I don't even have confidence that IF there had been a Congressional vote against going to war that any of you would have said NO to him. Now you express concerns, after he has dragged all Americans through an unauthorized war and ruined the economy and not just the US. BTW tRump, stop bragging about the stock market when you and your cohorts and million-billion-trillionaire friends are making money hand over fist when the vast majority of Americans do NOT have the financial means to invest in the stock market.
Now, do the right thing and stop his reign of terror.
Up until now, I spent time and attention supporting a recovering alcoholic. (Friend is five years clean and thriving) Just from my personal insight and awareness, I see so many parallels. Trump is drunk on power, complicated by his increasing dementia. The four you mentioned, plus too many others Republicans in Congress, are his enablers. His advisors work behind the political scenery to promote distractions. His financial "friends" are the $$$ cheerleaders. In my situation, I was directed by concern for the individual. His backup crew are indifferent, not only to his condition, but to concerns for our nation, allies and the world.

And, we must not forget the enablers, the elected representatives of the people, all of whom abandoned us. By every silence over the last 10 years, by voting for bills that harm, hurt, and damage American families and worst of all, offering active support for this cabal of corrupted creatures. Their “coming to their senses,” their “objections,” cannot be treated as sincere. Not after all that they watched and spurred on. We cannot forget if for no other reason that they, the Susan Collinses, the Mike Lees, the John Cornyns, and Mike Johnson’s (and etc., etc.) want us to.
The only problem those republicans have, is the $300 billion the U.S. will end up paying for reconstruction. None of them have voted to stop trump's war, despite repeated vote calls by Democrats.
What hypocrites those Republican leaders are. They could have stopped this up front with a War Powers vote. Having allowed Trump to wage this war, they’re now upset about how he’s agreeing to end it. This is their own fault.
Yesterday was a great day…watching the opening of the Obama Center in Chicago with the 3 living former Presidents and their First Ladies sitting on the stage with the Obamas…listening to Barack and Michelle’s uplifting hope filled positive speeches gave me joy and reaffirmation that there are still so many people out there who feel like I do.
Spending a day not mentioning trump’s name..his foibles..his destruction was soooo refreshing and it does give me HOPE.
We have still got a big fight ahead of us..we must do everything Heather just laid out for us to accomplish but what I saw yesterday makes me BELIEVE that we are far from alone in this fight and we CAN do it!
Listen to both those speeches from yesterday…remember when this country was not filled with greed and hate and division ..when we could have disagreements without turning on each other and choosing impenetrable sides..stymied in the mire of racism and hatred.
Hope is freedom…fear is incarceration…we still have HOPE..don’t let fear or the exhaustion he brings defeat or deflate ….there is LIGHT at the end of this nightmare ..we can get there if we try and don’t give up.

Today we got to experience scenes from New York to Chicago to Washington DC to the Palace of Versailles in France.
The scenes from New York of a young Mayor having hope and making extraordinary changes in the city that never sleeps to the remarkable win of the NY Knicks. The kick off of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago where there were four sitting Presidents and those First Ladies with one exception. The former First Lady and President Obama spoke and who reminded us that democracy is not just about politics. It really never is, it’s about community a shared purpose with the hope and believing that we have the opportunity to still build something together that is so much better. That is now happening currently in NY city. Then pan to Washington DC and the optics is a Reflecting pool that is so filled with algae the color is a neon green. Worker’s were instructed to pour hydrogen peroxide into as to control the algae and now the blue paint that was applied is becoming separated from the basin. The current VP trying so hard to sell a complete surrender to Iran and the current President in Versailles who holds up this deal that our nation will concede to Iran and continue to talk for 60 days proclaiming it’s all about him and if you don’t agree “you are stupid, jealous or a bad person” to think otherwise.
As Michelle Obama said so eloquently…
“Y'all, hope is all we have, because hope is the essential spark that lights the fire of change.
But hope is a choice. Whether or not we use our voices to speak up is a choice. Voting is a choice. Being a decent human being is a choice. Believing that we still hold the power to build a country that reflects us all is a choice.

The fragile enabling by relatives afraid of being cut out of the Will by the wealthy, senior, unmarried family member, who is experiencing obvious signs of dementia, and poor health, is a familiar sight to behold when we witness the behaviors of President Trump’s sycophants.
The major difference is the enabling of DJT portends the most nightmarish scenario as you’ve spotlighted, Heather: this person has the nuclear codes and believes there are “no limits to (his) power”.

I have eliminated all news sources now except for you and the NY Times -- I can't imagine ever giving them up after some 60 years of reading them since I was a young teenager. We changed from cable to just Amazon Prime Video a year ago. We do miss MSNBC, but there is no way to get that on Amazon, so we just look at the website occasionally. I had a major medical incident in March which was never fully diagnosed and a mini stroke last week. I no longer have the time or the strength to look at multiple newspapers or TV news reports. It's you and the NYT. Thank you for taking on the task of distilling and summarizing what is out there. Very scary. I am retired from the military. This is not the country I served.
I listened to this post twice. I appreciate you naming some of the practical ways we can stay engaged in resistance on a daily basis: super helpful. I’d add to your list supporting Senate candidates in key, winnable states. Also buying stuff for our community pantry for families suffering from ICE abductions and financial hardship. It’s a regular part of my grocery budget, and one of my favorite things to do, plus it’s more tangible to me than automatic withdrawals from my checking account. And, even though it feels mostly symbolic, I do write to my two senators and congresswoman. Thanks once again for all you do, Heather. Keep writing! Heather.

This statement you made is exactly how I feel and how I react. It reminds me of my driving skills, my eyes are constantly moving from, front to back and side to side, always searching for danger especially on the highway. I equate that caution to the reality of our political situation now, and I have to admit it is exhausting..................but I can't look away. If we don't correct this situation I will probably be searching for what's ahead as I take my last breath. We all need a break, and November can't come soon enough.
