At 12:36 this morning, shortly after the fireworks had exploded overhead from America's 250th birthday celebration, the President of the United States was already back on his personal social media platform, Truth Social, with his first post of the day, which seemed innocent enough. "Best fireworks show, EVER! President DJT."
But less than twenty-four hours later, that post would mark one of Donald Trump’s most frantic social media spirals we have seen from him in a very long time. Over the course of the day, Trump posted or reposted more than 100 times, including 67 posts in just two hours. He shared content with white nationalist language, attacked a federal judge, shared an image of himself arm-wrestling a celebrity, reposted a racist caricature of Barack and Michelle Obama, declared that a "RESTRAINING ORDER IS NEEDED" against an American ally, a foreign leader who was once considered one of Trump's closest European partners, and flooded his feed with pictures of his family from the early 1900’s and of his father who he claimed was his "mentor."
Bravo Heather! I don’t know how you summarize this well, covering innumerable points and making madness plain. However you grew up, whatever has made you who you are today, it’s exceptional, and so important. Your writing and critical analysis is a great source of inspiration and hope for people like me. An internet meme where he poses as Mr. Winston Churchill , for that's who I believe that dark figure is, directing WW2 bombers towards Germany , does nothing but bring on a comparison of the man who brought Europe through the Nazi threat to the man who is building the new Nazi threat . The Irony passes him by.
It's excellent to keep chronicling Trump's mental and physical decline, but let's remember that he is in the bubble of his own insanity, basically talking to himself, saying what he imagines the world to be like. Haberman and Swan's authoritative new book Regime Change uses the same simile (p. 186) "He live[s] in a bubble...." The outside world, especially at the level of international diplomacy, knows this, so the influence of his fantasies is highly filtered and sanitized. Well, whether you like her or not, Trumpty just managed to boost Giorgia Meloni’s popularity —for free! I find myself actually admiring her though I don’t agree with her politics. She stood up for herself against a world-class bully. More European leaders should follow her example. Especially the British PM.
The lemonade stand kids are a good illustration of what every one of us can do in these dark times: build up one another, even on the smallest scale. We must hold together for the common good; and one-to-one kindness, solidarity, and support are our superpower.

How sad that they hijacked this celebration and misappropriated joy, funds, message-EVERYTHING for another “monument to me” moment-as he’s trying to do all over in DC-and presumably in Mt Rushmore as he keeps pushing for his face to be added. We got through it-but at what cost? I’ll celebrate when we regain our nation out of the hands of the Nazis and build Constitutional safeguards to prevent this atrocity from ever happening again.
As an auslander (from Oz) who used to live in Costa Mesa (slightly east of Newport Beach) this rather surprises me - it was very different in the 70's. I presume Fashion Island (alias Fascist Island - even then) would have been the target of the looting. What I completely fail to understand is the sustained 30+ % support for this guy. Surely by now reality should have sunk in! Evidently not.

The basic premise behind each one is their truth..what they believe and are desperately try indoctrinate us with but they must make it appear to come from the top…he demands that or else.
They know they’re losing ground but as in the past…they still believe they have enough support from those who will forgive and overlook anything from him no matter what he does …now they’re not as sure..they can see the shifts the same way we can and they’re getting worried so they pile it on.
Will they have enough ..we and all the Democrats have to make sure they don’t.
We have to continue to highlight all that he’s NOT doing..not helping..causing us pain and hardship at home..at our jobs..in the world…costs are rising..jobs are falling..wars are still happening and our reputation all over the world is failing..we are becoming a joke and HE’S the CAUSE of ALL of it….the buck stops with him.
