Earlier tonight, as the Star-Spangled Banner was being sung on the court inside Madison Square Garden before Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Donald Trump stood high above, his hand raised in salute, with his granddaughter just behind him. And as the anthem played, the broadcast cameras moved from player to player before eventually finding Trump. Within seconds, a wave of boos began rolling through the crowd, growing louder and louder until it seemed to overwhelm everything else. Thousands of people packed into one of the most famous arenas in the country made their feelings known all at once. And as it was happening...
Thank you, Heather, for respecting and valuing the contributions of our community elders. I’m 80, the same age as Trump FWIW. I no longer think about running for office or organizing protests, my sense of history, my life experience hold important lessons for the leading edge of society and growing political power, the 30-35 year olds. They have only experienced Trump, sadly. They barely remember the promise of the Obama administration that faded and instead triggered this backlash, this abomination, this uncovering of the worst in human nature, this permission slip to be jerks and racists. I pray for this generation of fresh Adults.
The most depressing part of Trumpism, for me and women my age, is the viciousness towards females and lack of respect for the battles women my age have fought and - we thought - won. Talk about backlash . . . even young women seem to lack appreciation for the world around them that was shaped by women like me, who stood up for women’s rights in the face of demoralizing misogyny and sexism. I built a career in a male dominated career by being better, more creative, more productive than male colleagues. Young women today take much for granted, it seems, but I see glimmers of hope that shine through the darkness of reactionary anti-feminism. Thank you again, Heather, for your undaunted service.
Thanks, Charlotte - we are of the same age: you, I, Mr DJT, and many others who are capable of recalling the social and environmental movements of the 1960’s and 70’s.
It is truly unfortunate that some of us, like DJT, choose to ignore the truths those movements brought into the greater public consciousness.
Awareness, as you’ve pointed out, that female members of society deserve equality in all aspects of life, that wars are horrendous examples of a government sacrificing its young men and women on the alter of political and corporate greed, that the environment is a Sacred Thing that must be understood and respected or It will exact its revenge upon us for ignoring the calculus of environmental homeostasis.
DJT, and others like him, are attempting to drive us all back to the norms of the 1950’s using the farcical acronym of MAGA. And, like Trump - remain delusional in the face of the public’s wrath and report how much the public admires and appreciates who he is, and what he is doing.
Unfortunately for Mr Trump, this is the same delusional behavior that Richard Nixon was stricken with, and wound up toppling his Presidency.
Stay strong everyone. It is so easy to just feel worn down by what is happening, but like Heather who is holding everyone together, find one good thing to hold onto everyday. Be kind or helpful to a neighbour, enjoy a birdsong in a park or enjoy a child’s story when they come home from school.
I want the republican senators to stand up and be seen not to kowtow to Trump and push back. Have a happy day. Sent with love from UK

Heather my first thought on reading your post about Trump gerring booed at the basketball finals was one of utter glee. Most of the crowd were native New Yorkers and they were letting him know in no uncertain terms exactly what they thought of him. Then I noticed the look on his granddaughter's face and felt very sorry for her
Also, because the Dumpkof was attending the game, the crowds were denied the opportunity of watching the game for free. Even then Trump fell asleep then left early. His attendance was only for his own ego. Keep fighting people. Love from the UK.
Von trump has become the only really most hated corrupt fake christian guy on this planet. That is quite an achievement I must admit. And so quickly. The useful idiot is reaching his peremption date anyway. Lock him up

Yes it’s definitely exhausting living with sociopathic narcissist Trump constantly doing and saying outrageous and egregious things every minute of every day. His supporters are brainwashed and insist he was being cheered, not booed. I wonder if these die-hards will ever wake up and realize Trump only cares about himself.

Someone close to me died a week ago. And I was remembering some advice I got when my late husband died. And I think it’s advice that we can use in our present political circumstance. With grief, you can’t go around it, you’d have to go through it. And you will come out the other side.
