Last night wasn’t just an election—it was a reckoning. Voters sent a message loud and clear that fascism isn’t welcome here, no matter how the Trump regime tries to disguise it. But history has warned us what happens when we forgive too quickly and forget too easily: cruelty always finds its way back. From the Confederacy to Jim Crow to today’s enablers in Congress, the lesson is the same—without accountability, the cycle repeats. We can celebrate this win, but we can’t let our guard down.
So true, Heather. In a way it’s already starting with Centrist Senate Dems negotiating a phony deal with “moderate” Republicans to end the shutdown. We have to pressure them to stop without ironclad guarantees.
Thank you for this column—I wholeheartedly agree and it is inspiring to see a little light in these recent results, to encourage us to keep working as hard as we can to reclaim and restore democracy!

Yes, 100% we do. I hope they are wise enough not to trust them, but I'm not holding my breath on that either.

It felt very good indeed. Just a little glimmer of hope can help carry us through what is likely to be a very difficult year.
I’m a new subscriber and I’m quickly becoming a big fan of your work. Thank you. ❤️ my front door.
Thank you, Tom, and love that sign!
Hello!
Here's 8 on my watch list now:
Jeanne Shaheen NH
Maggie Hassan NH
Dick Durbin IL
Tim Kaine VA
John Fetterman PA
Catherine Cortez Masto NV
Jacky Rosen NV
Angus King ME
PA was already there as he seemed to disappear all of a sudden.
ME seems to deliver an awful lot of sucker punches to the American people.
