I've never seen anything like this from a President before

From his golf resort at Mar-a-Lago, the President of the United States posted three sentences that may be the most disgraceful words a sitting president has ever written. “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!” He signed it with his full name and title. Robert Mueller was a Marine who waited a full year for a knee injury to heal so he could enlist for Vietnam. He led a fire team across fire-swept terrain to recover a wounded Marine and earned the Bronze Star. He was shot in the thigh during another ambush, held his position, and earned the Purple Heart. He served twelve years as FBI director under presidents of both parties. The man who dodged the draft five times told the country he was glad this man was gone.

The reaction was swift and came from places Trump did not expect. His own former White House attorney, Ty Cobb, went on national television and called him “a demented narcissist.” Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume said, “This is the kind of stuff Trump does that makes people not just oppose him but hate him.” Republican congressman Don Bacon called it “clearly wrong and unchristian behavior.” Even Fox News viewers responding under the network’s own post called the president “inhumane.” The FBI, now led by Trump loyalist Kash Patel, said nothing.

And while Trump was celebrating the death of a war hero, the war he started was spiraling. Iranian missiles struck near Israel’s main nuclear research center at Dimona, and Israel’s military admitted it could not intercept them. Iran also fired missiles at Diego Garcia, a joint U.S.-U.K. base 2,500 miles away, demonstrating range far beyond what was previously acknowledged. Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum threatening to obliterate Iran’s power plants if they didn’t open the Strait of Hormuz.
