This is your strongest and best column yet. Fantastic journalism. Thank you.

I didn’t notice whether you noted that he pronounced Lenin LANEEN?

Double offended as a former History AND English teacher…completely embarrassing

Thank you Heather for this accurate assessment of the current farce of a president. As I have said many times, in England and Europe we can distinguish between the regime and the great American people. Tdump and his delusional cronies do not represent the USA.

Thank you, Joe. That is encouraging to us, to know that the world understands we are not the same as him.

I have heard, “But Americans elected him twice- how stupid they are!” Well, I don’t believe he was elected the second time. He and Musk as much as admitted it.

Thank you for supporting us. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

I don’t think he was elected legitimately the first time. Russia helped with that one.

It is said the Trump did not win, misinformation won.

Here’s a thought. One person in any room where he’s talking such gibberish and nonsense, says, “You’re wrong.” Someone, a single soul, challenges him loudly, coherently, and immediately. Change the dynamics of the room. Put him on the spot. Get others to do something they must do: start the ball rolling. A house on fire needs one blast of water from one fire hose before all the available fire hoses start spraying. Change the dynamics on the spot.

Good idea. The challenge is that the only people usually allowed in his briefings and meetings are his spineless and/or brainless synchophants.

I don’t understand why this doesn’t happen. Press him on specifics, ask him a follow up question; anything where he needs to go beyond made up numbers, exaggerated happenings, and outright lies.

In addition to Trump failing due to recklessness and impairment, we must add ill-intent to the list. Intent cannot be ignored. Republicans have been talking for decades about destroying the U.S. government whenever they got the chance. They have fever dreams about the U.S. government being composed solely of a military and police. They have gotten their golden opportunity for destruction through Trump, and they are not squandering it. Nor are they going to willingly give up their power when the time comes. Dangerous times.

I like the idea of taking out Vance first, so the vice-presidency becomes empty and the Speaker of the House, who will be a Democrat, becomes next in line—an incentive for JDV to get off his butt and act sooner.

Mary Ann Yaeger's avatar

I honestly hope "incentive for JDV to get off his butt and act sooner" doesn't occur to him. The current shitshow is too much on its own, we don't need yet another.

George McCully's avatar

I totally sympathize, Mary, but our country and the world will be safer under a rational American president. We can vote him out as well.

kathleen swedlund's avatar

And you willing to take that chance?

George McCully's avatar

Only if forced to, because we have no alternative.

Mary Ann Yaeger's avatar

I'm confused. Are you saying JDV is rational????? If so, sorry, I have to disagree with that.

George McCully's avatar

Relatively, to you-know-who, yes. I get your point though.

It’s Reagan 2.0. I’m curious to know just what they are having him sign these days. I’m also worried about his obsession with stealing as much money as he can from the government. I’m wondering if the gold is still secure at Fort Knox. We can’t use the 25th amendment but we could use article two section four and get rid of them all. I fear our country will disintegrate before we get to vote them all out this November. Hopefully he and Musks fight is still going on and he won’t use his star link satellites to change the votes again for him. It’s exhausting watching our country circling the drain like this.

Keep up the good work!!

The reason nobody in his administration is doing anything is because he has become the distraction while they continue to solidify the 2025 plan that they wrote. While everyone gawks at him the cupboard is being emptying by his enablers.

This is so well said. Yes the elections are important but next week hearings to confirm Todd Blanche as Attorney General begin. We need to block that confirmation. If there is anything we can do right now to keep the institutional backsliding at bay this is it. Call senators and tell them that Todd Blanche should not be confirmed because he is not representing the United States but his boss.

I couldn't agree more, every word is right on the dime!! I too believe that the midterms are going to either save us or be our demise. My wish, hope, prayer is that the multiple of organizers plan a HUGE NO KINGS RALLY for this fall. I believe this will reignite the energy of all the people to get out and vote!!

Thank you, Heather, for adding your personal note at the end of your piece. What you said is so important and so true.

Aren't there people in the orange buffoon's administration who are sick and tired of Trump's braggadocio? Everything that he says is utter rubbish. How world leaders can listen to his ramblings without either groaning or laughing is beyond me. Let's hope that nature takes its course before the November elections.

Janine Bradburn's avatar

I always say this same thing.

I agree with Judith. This column is the most incisive yet. You cut to the moral core of the daily attacks on our rule of law by a desperately sick man. Thank you for your courage in bringing the truth to us all.

Thank you so much for your detailed work. I can’t stomach the news and rely on you to keep me informed. I am sorry for the struggles. 💔 Hang in there! ❤️

If Democrats are in a position come January to issue subpoenas we have to assume they will be ignored and not enforced by DOJ. Then will come the choice of dusting off inherent contempt, last used in the 1930s, to arrest and hold those defying subpoenas.
