Where unidentified agents in tactical gear seize people in broad daylight, without a word or a warrant.

Where we are told to trust the system even when the system hides its face. Where fear wears a badge and silence is the only answer you get. Where we keep asking, "Why aren't we doing anything?" while the rest of the world watches in disbelief.

Where Harvard might hand Trump $500 million just to make him go away, as if that would ever be enough. Where giving in once only guarantees he'll come back for more. Where a university that once stood as a pillar of academic freedom now finds itself bargaining with authoritarianism, not because they want to, but because they feel like they have to.

Where the architects of Project 2025 aren't just trying to win the next election. They're laying the groundwork to control the next generation. The Heritage Foundation has already built a database of 20,000 potential appointees to fill with loyalists across federal agencies. That's enough people to staff nearly every federal role that shapes education policy, from the Department of Education to local grant approval.

They're not just changing leadership; their goal is to install an entire shadow government. They don't want critical thinkers. They want ideological loyalty. They don't want students asking questions. They want them to follow orders.

Where a Virginia judge had to block Governor Glenn Youngkin's attempt to override the state legislature and install political loyalists onto university boards. This happened in recent months, after the Virginia Senate rejected eight of his appointees, including former Trump official Ken Cuccinelli. Youngkin tried to force them in anyway. The court ruled against him, reaffirming that even governors don't get to bypass democratic checks just because they don't like the outcome.

Why does this matter beyond Virginia? Because it was a blueprint. Replace qualified board members with ideologues, and you control what gets taught, who gets hired, and which truths are allowed to survive. If it works in one state, it spreads. If they can erase academic independence at UVA, they can do it anywhere. This isn't about education. It's about submission. And they are counting on no one noticing until it's too late.

Where the Environmental Protection Agency, once a barrier between corporate greed and public health, just erased its own legal foundation for regulating greenhouse gases. Where facts no longer guide policy. Only profit does. Where they're calling it "relief," when what it really is, is a license to pollute.

The science is clear: this repeal will increase particulate matter in the air by 15–20% within two years. That translates to 200,000 preventable deaths over the next decade. Childhood asthma rates will spike 25% in urban areas. But they're calling it "regulatory relief" because it sounds better than "mass poisoning for profit."

Where Ken Paxton, Attorney General of Texas, thinks his state should have jurisdiction over New York. Where a doctor in New York prescribed abortion medication legally to a patient who needed it. And now she's caught in a legal crossfire of another state's ideology.

Where freedom of choice and professional judgment mean nothing if they contradict the political mission. Where state sovereignty is weaponized selectively. Where the same voices that scream about federal overreach think it's fine to let Texas dictate what happens in New York. Where "states' rights" only count if they advance conservative control.

This follows a predictable pattern we've seen throughout history. First, create chaos. Too much for anyone to keep up with. Then they expand surveillance capabilities. After that, they create emergencies that do not exist and weaponize the powers that come with that. Next, they criminalize dissent and use law enforcement against political opponents. Finally, they dismantle institutional safeguards while claiming to restore order. The playbook is always the same: create chaos, then position yourself as the solution.

Where everything looks normal. Until it doesn't. Until it's your neighbor, your coworker, your child, taken, charged, disappeared. Where every cruelty is wrapped in the language of protection. Where compassion is mocked as weakness. Where chaos is not a bug in the system. It is the system.

Where the GOP used to stand for limited government, and now it bows to a man who wants unlimited power. Where J.D. Vance once called Trump "America's Hitler," and now kneels at his feet. When weak men who can be bought are put in places of leadership, principles collapse under pressure.

Where they cut funding for education, health care, and basic human needs, while hiring 10,000 new ICE agents who are acting as the President's personal military. Because fear is the most effective propaganda of all. Because ignorance isn't a flaw, it's a feature. Because they want you to know less, feel more, and obey always.

Where pediatricians are dismissed. Where public health has been recast as political disobedience. Where climate data is deleted. Cancer screenings are defunded. Vaccination panels are dismantled. Because knowledge creates resistance, and resistance is inconvenient.

Where this is not the beginning. This is the acceleration. And we are already running out of time.

Where everything seems oddly normal, but you can feel evil cracking through our everyday lives. And evil doesn't stop. Evil has to be stopped.

But I've seen resistance to this evil, too. Clerks refusing to enforce unjust laws. Parents organizing and winning school board seats. Doctors speaking out and being heard. Judges blocking overreach. Communities protecting their neighbors. Democracy fighting back.

The VISIBLE Act, short for "Verifying Independent Standardized Identification Before Law Enforcement," would require all federal law enforcement officers, including ICE and border patrol agents, to wear clearly visible identification at all times.

No more masked men without badges. No more government agents detaining people in secret.

This bill restores a fundamental standard: if you are enforcing the law, the public has the right to know who you are and why you're there.

Because accountability isn't radical. It's the minimum. And without it, we don't have a democracy; we have a disappearing act.

And when the grief sets in, when it all feels too heavy, rest. But don't go numb.

Make your favorite comfort meal and share it with neighbors. Call someone who makes you laugh. Walk until your legs ache and invite others to join you. Let yourself cry without rushing to explain it. Celebrate small victories. Dance to loud music. Let yourself feel joy fiercely and unapologetically.

And when you're ready, come back. Because the fight needs you. Because we are not done. Because I still believe in America. I believe in us. I believe we're stronger than their cruelty, smarter than their lies, and more determined than their fear. You should believe it, too.
