I’m from the United States of Control, where the president flies to Scotland to promote his personal golf resort while the taxpayers pick up the tab.
Where the Secretary of Health is a man who says a worm ate part of his brain, and millions of people nod like that’s fine, and actually take health advice from him.
Where the only person serving time in the Epstein trafficking ring is a woman. And the men whose names were whispered by the victims hold power, not shame.
This week, Pam Bondi didn’t show up to testify about what she saw in the Epstein files.
She cited a torn cornea.
And maybe that’s true. But it’s also true that the longer she stays silent, the louder the questions become.
Questions like: Why did Trump send his personal attorney, who now happens to be the Deputy Attorney General of the United States, on a private jet to interview Ghislaine Maxwell? Why her? Why now?
On July 22, 2025, the Department of Justice confirmed Blanche conducted a two-day interview with Maxwell at the U.S. attorney's office in Tallahassee, where she was transported from the Tallahassee Correctional Facility. She reportedly provided information and did not plead the Fifth.
Yet nothing has been shared with the public.
And now Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyer hopes Trump will pardon her.
Why would he even consider that? Who pardons people who contribute to the trafficking of young women and children?
I guess the president would do that if he, himself, is on the Epstein list, as he is rumored to be.
For those keeping track, Trump said he didn’t know about the visit with Maxwell, Project 2025, or the March leaked war plans shared in a private group chat that included a journalist.
He always says he doesn’t know.
But somehow, he always benefits.
We are living in a system of deliberate distraction. Where every scandal covers the one before. Where the news cycle moves faster than the truth. Where if you say, "This feels like a dictatorship," they say you’re being brainwashed by "the dems."
But look closer.
We are ruled by a man who doesn’t read briefings.
Who doesn’t care if he breaks laws.
Who demands loyalty, not leadership.
Who governs through fear, not facts.
What do you do when truth becomes the enemy?
In news we should have expected, but still feels so surreal, RFK Jr.'s MAHA movement, after attacking red food dye 40, is now targeting plant-based milks.
You know, another HUGE threat to our children. Sorry, I got that wrong. Measles is the threat, but he’s letting that spread. He knows it’s dangerous. He vaccinated his own children against it. But he wants ours to suffer.
So he does what he and Trump do best: deflect and attack something safe and science-backed, milk that comes from plants.
When they tell you that plant-based milks are dangerous, they ignore the science that shows they lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. They ignore the 40 million Americans who are lactose intolerant. They ignore children with milk protein allergies or enzyme deficiencies. They ignore people managing autoimmune disease, fighting cancer, or simply choosing a diet rooted in compassion. They ignore doctors and nutritionists who have spent decades researching this.
This isn’t policy.
It’s propaganda.
And the cruelty is the point.
They’re not just coming for your milk.
They’re coming for your decisions.
What you eat.
What you know.
What you say.
They call it the MAHA movement.
But it’s just rebranded extremism.
Polished with social media filters.
Marketed with pseudoscience.
Bankrolled by billionaires.
And it’s spreading.
Meanwhile, the kidnapping of people on our streets continues. I used to call them undocumented immigrants, but we don’t even know that for sure. They’re not getting due process to prove one way or another. They think no one cares. But we do.
We know they’re testing how far they can take this. They want to see if anyone will stop them. So far, they’re mostly getting away with it. But stories of strength are breaking through.
Like the woman near me in Encinitas, a city in San Diego, who screamed at ICE agents to get out. Because someone has to say it: Not here. Not in this town. Not in our name.
We’re going to need mass activations to really make a difference.
Remember, they’re paying contractors $45,000 bonuses to act like private muscle. Disappearing people without names. Without records. Without answers.
And we are paying for it.
With our taxes.
With our silence.
With our souls.
So what can we do?
We can tell the truth.
We can show up.
We can record.
We can interrupt the lie.
We can ask questions.
We stay loud.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You just need to care enough to do something.
Because the scariest part of this moment is how normal it’s starting to feel.
And if we let it become normal,
We’ll lose more than our rights.
We’ll lose our sense of what’s right at all.
We are not powerless.
We are not voiceless.
We are not outnumbered.
We are just out-organized.
And we can fix that.
Something I often think about in times like these is the Mr. Rogers quote: "My mom used to say, when the news is scary, look for the helpers." The helpers are all around us.
Today, they are really showing up in Scotland. They are reminding Trump that the world is watching, and they know he is turning the United States into a dictatorship.
We are in for more rocky days ahead, especially if we can’t take back Congress in 2026, when the most harmful parts of his “Big Ugly Bill” take effect.
That means there’s still time. And a path out of this, but we have to organize. I believe the Democratic Party will get its act together, form a united front, and pick a leader to deliver the message we can all rally behind.
As I've said many times before, I'm not a Democrat. I've never been one. I was a Republican for 25+ years, who never voted straight down any line; until Trump came around, and now I'm a d*e hard blue voter. This is not a party issue; it is us against Trump and his MAGA movement.
But we need a united front and someone to lead the movement. And it feels like we are closer to this than we have been in the past.
The next few years are going to be trying. They are going to keep bombarding us with chaos and cruelty. But they forgot that the heart of America, the people who are on the right side of history, far outnumber the bad.
I still have hope for America, and you should, too.
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Heather
