I didn't think I'd ever have to explain why protecting children should be non-negotiable.

But here we are.

Because right now, Donald Trump is laying the groundwork to make sexual violence against women and children seem routine. Strategic. Acceptable. A nuisance, not a crime.

He knows what's coming.

His name is reportedly tied to the Jeffrey Epstein files. They were best friends after all. The documents are being unsealed. People are talking. Some already know what's in them. And instead of denying it or defending himself, he's doing something more dangerous.

He's trying to make us stop caring. He knows that it will eventually all come out so to get ahead of it in the only way he can, he is trying to make what will come out seem more like an everyday occurrence between grown men and young women instead of the crimes that they are.

Remember how Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's convicted co-conspirator was quietly transferred to a minimum-security facility in Bryan, Texas. She helped recruit girls and by some accounts was a participant in the abuse. She stood trial. She was sentenced. And now she's tucked away at a prison commonly called "club fed" with no fences where non-violent offenders are sent.

She gave names just days before the transfer.

Roughly 100, according to reports. Not publicly, not in court, but to a senior DOJ official. And days later, she was relocated to what insiders call "the softest landing in the Bureau of Prisons."

She's not behind bars. She's being kept out of sight and as comfortable as possible.

This is what happens when silence is more valuable than justice. He is showing her that if she stays silent, or at least doesn't say his name and maybe instead mentions his enemies names, she can keep living her much more comfortable existence.

And while that's unfolding behind closed doors, Trump is staging distractions.

Remember how we talked about him reviving the Presidential Fitness Test with a press event, where he invited a convicted sex offender, Lawrence Taylor, to help announce a children's health initiative. Taylor pled guilty to paying for sex with a 16-year-old girl. She was trafficked. He didn't ask her age. He's a registered offender now.

And Trump put him on stage. To promote a program for kids.

That's not random.

That's not bad vetting.

That's not a mistake.

That is the deliberate normalization of rape culture to brainwash his followers and the rest of us into thinking this is all normal and that we should not be so upset over these types of crimes. If he can get us to relax our outrage over women and children getting assaulted, then when the news is released about him, we won't care.

It's part of a pattern. Think about his cabinet nominees:

Matt Gaetz was originally nominated for Attorney General even though he was under investigation for having sex with and paying a 17-year-old, but he ultimately withdrew his nomination.

RFK Jr. the Secretary of Health and Human Services, reportedly had allegations from a babysitter in the 1990's that he never denied and just said it was "rambunctious youth". He was almost 40.

Then there is Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense. A woman alleged that he took her phone, and refused to allow her to leave until an alleged encounter occurred. It was said to have been settled out of court, and no criminal charges were filed due to insufficient evidence.

I could keep going on, but the White House now seems to have a growing number of people in its realm that all seem to have one thing in common, they are predators.

Trump has never distanced himself from men accused of harming women or children. He amplifies them. Defends them. Elevates them.

Because if the public gets used to this, he's no longer the outlier. He's the standard.

And if the people he protects are too disturbing to talk about, they become too familiar to challenge.

This isn't just a moral failure. It's a political tactic.

Flood the media with chaos involving abuse around women and children. Turn predators into spokesmen. Push survivors off the page. Make the public numb, then bored, then complicit.

That's how he stays ahead of the next headline.

And it's working on many fronts. No one's asking why a registered sex offender is helping launch fitness initiatives because it almost seems so on brand for this administration that we just shake our heads and say "oh Trump, not another one of your bad moves".

And even the Epstein client list Trump said he'd release is starting to slip away from our minds. On Tuesday, the Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee demanded the Justice Department hand over files related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, while also summoning ten former officials for depositions concerning the case. But here's the thing. Anything anyone sees will be highly redacted. I have no hope we will see much of anything, well maybe Clinton's name because that would thrill Trump to no end. And if on the odd chance Trump's name is in something we all see, no problem, he's already desensitized us to that so it will be another one of those things we just look away from.

Another promise he made that will be broken. Multiple times. Because remember he said he'd make these files public. Said he wanted to "get to the bottom" of Epstein's network. And we have nothing.

And if we let it slide now, it doesn't end here.

It ends with normalized rape culture from the top down.

With child trafficking framed as a political smear, not a felony.

With victims silenced, predators protected, and the rest of us too tired to keep screaming.

But it does not have to be this way. We do not have to let any of this slowly fade into the background. We have voices and we are using them. They can try to silence the victims but they cannot silence all of us. We won't let them.

And while all of this was happening there was of course other news too. Because in Trump's America the only days we are allowed to rest from the chaos is when he's lying about his golf score while playing a few rounds on the taxpayer's dollar.

Trump threatens federal takeover of D.C.

After an assault on a far-right DOGE worker known as "Big Balls," Trump demanded control over Washington, D.C., citing the city's inability to maintain order. His language mirrors past efforts to militarize the district and override its governance. He's using one violent incident, one that he's chosen to politicize, as the excuse he's been waiting for. Remember this is a paranoid man that would love nothing better than to lock down Washington D.C. and terrorize the people in it.

Trump says GOP is 'entitled' to 5 more House seats in Texas

As Texas Republicans push an aggressive mid-decade redistricting map, Trump told supporters, "We were robbed. We are entitled to five more." No mention of voters. No mention of democracy. Just entitlement. And a promise to redraw the lines until they can't lose. We talked about gerrymandering yesterday, but Trump is ramping up his propaganda. He is brainwashing his supporters because he is right, he does need these seats if he wants to keep control of the house after the midterms, but he certainly is not entitled to them.

RFK Jr. cancels $500 million in cancer and mRNA vaccine research

As Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the immediate shutdown of 22 vaccine development programs. This includes mRNA projects tied to cancer immunotherapy that had shown promise in early-stage trials. Scientists say this puts the U.S. years behind on fighting preventable cancers and future pandemics. He framed it as a win. For who? I am actually heartbroken about this. I lost someone recently to cancer and I would give anything to have them back in our lives. This loss has been so painful that I haven't been able to even write about it because this somehow makes it real. I think most of us have been touched by cancer and I can't fathom the amount of pure evil that would cancel something like this. Aside from Trump, RFK Jr. is the second most dangerous person in our country.

Trump announces "strong testing" for transgender athletes ahead of 2028 Olympics

Trump says he will introduce mandatory gender testing for all women athletes competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Legal experts are warning that this could violate international law and human rights treaties. It's not about sports. It's about weaponizing cruelty. Can you imagine how this would even be carried out. Are they testing men? No. How are they testing? Why does Trump think that he is above the governing body of the Olympics? I have said this before and I'm saying it again. This is not a safe country for international travelers.

U.S. government restricts sports visas for transgender women

New DHS guidance will now block sports-related visas for transgender women from countries where they are recognized under international competition guidelines. Advocates call it blatant discrimination, and Olympic officials are reportedly "extremely concerned." The United States used to be a safe place for all people to visit. This is a sick turn towards dictatorship. We should all be deeply concerned about this even if we don't personally know any transgender people.

Trump expands SNAP bans on processed food in 6 states

Six more states have received waivers allowing them to restrict SNAP recipients from buying processed food. That includes shelf-stable meals, frozen dinners, and snack items—often the only option for people in food deserts or living without full kitchens. This isn't about health. It's about punishment. Fed is best. They are criminalizing being poor and food insecure. This is just about control and the concentration of wealth to the top.

Trump targets climate monitoring

While no official order to shut down satellites has been confirmed, Trump's proposed budget slashes key climate science programs, including those that rely on satellite data for tracking emissions, hurricanes, sea level rise, and polar ice loss. The Carbon Monitoring System was defunded in his previous term, and climate scientists are warning that this latest move could critically undermine our ability to respond to global disasters. Whether the goal is to turn off the satellites or not, the effect will be the same: leave us blind, on purpose. What more do we need to happen for people to realize what is happening.

None of this is background noise.
It's the signal.

Everything listed here connects to a single agenda:
Strip away protections. Silence opposition. Normalize cruelty. Consolidate power.
Suppress oversight.
Control narrative.
Punish the vulnerable.
Protect the powerful.

This isn't just about today. This is about what tomorrow becomes if we stop paying attention.
