The Mayflower left UK with immigrants in it - the very start of USA. The Native population was virtually decimated by the immigrants. But onwards and upwards we all go.

Europe does have a problem with illegal immigrants which we are trying to tackle, but we don’t beat them up, kill them or lock them away in concentration camps.

What those brave soldiers were doing 82 years ago was freeing up people who had been held hostage for 4 years by a vile despicable regime called the Nazi’s - now please compare MR Hegseth what you are lecturing Europe about.

While you bully and belittle your population and everyone else’s how you have behaved over the last 2 years and the things you have said and done.

Bombing and killing fishermen - School children in Iran - the list is endless.

Don’t you dare lecture Europe on how to behave and what to do, you don’t have a brave or decent bone in your body.

Thank you, Charlotte Firth, for mentioning that the U.S. is a nation of immigrants. Most of those who fought on D-Day were sons, grandsons of immigrants. And most of those immigrant fore-bearers were vilified when they arrived to the U.S. Hegseth’s background is Norwegian. Each generation of new arrivals to the US had to deal with ridicule and discrimination, & the demand they “go back to where they came from”.

The CEO of the ICE detention centers is an immigrant.

Charlotte Firth's avatar

Indirectly so are we all as our ancestors came from Africa. Read Alice Roberts.

Head of ice will never make heaven !!!!

When will we all ever learn to live kindly together.

Never with the present US administration hell bent on making huge quantities of untaxed dollars and pointing fingers at “the little people” maybe Hegseth should read his history books. Starting with France!!!

You said it much better than I ever could have (and you beat me to it😀). Thank you. I keep pointing this fact out to people but don’t know if I am getting through to them.

I am so sick of these ignorant, idiotic, white trash buffoons.

Ken Chapman's avatar

I keep thinking, we just don't hear buffoon nearly enough, in relation to this mob.

I'm going to use it every chance I get.

My own country of Australia seems to have a Buffoonery Academy, churning out graduates on a weekly basis.

This decade could be the rise of the Buffoon, or the collapse of Buffoonery support.

Either way, there's gonna be a lot of buffoons about.

Mary Ann Yaeger's avatar

I'm particularly fond of calling them "maroons"...borrowed from the 1988 movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." Morons, buffoons, maroons.. they all apply.

You’re absolutely right Ken‼️

Don’t forget Australia and New Zealand went too and we lost many brave young people We remember every year on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day

They shall not grow old

As we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them

Nor the years condemn

At the going down of the sun

And in the morning

We shall remember them

Lest we forget ….

How corrupt is he that he is not moved by those graves at that sacred ground. I still can feel the lump in my throat that rose as I looked across that sea of crosses and stars many years ago. I would say that everyone needs the experience of visiting that cemetery, but clearly it had no effect on him

Fantastic article! Keep up the fight..we have to stop this movement or we will have another “D- Day” only we won’t have any allies to join us…thank you for all you do!

Hegseth is such an embarrassment. And don’t even get me started on Trump. They understand nothing about sacrifice. Only about self-aggrandizement. I don’t think the word “honor” lives in either of their vocabularies. Certainly not in how it should be applied on a day for remembering people who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. All Donald cares about is what his country can do for him, and certainly not vice versa.

Pete Hegseth is is the equivalent of the amoral chameleon who buddies up to the barroom bully and magnifies the bully’s words and actions because he is, essentially, an empty vessel and will collapse when the bully exits

Charlotte Dusse’ Haro's avatar

Agree . Hegseth is ignorant n evil . Yes, an embarrassment! Trump is all these things n more!

Diana's avatar

How much money has the Trump family made since his two terms? Mind boggling- laws don’t apply to the family?? The new IRS ruling… we pay taxes and get Zero breaks- but the Trumps will be exempt?? Mind boggling….

If the Secretary of Defense could only look in the mirror and see anything besides his pretty-girl pompadour, he would have to admit that his role is a contradiction. America First represents isolationism. That means protecting one’s own, including young men. So why is he so itchy to send out “warfighters” (gag) to Iran, salivating over the chance to send them to Cuba, Greenland, Canada, etc.?

“Offense is the best defense” may work in sports, but not in protecting Americans. When another Pearl Harbor or 9/11 happens, he won’t have a clue as to how he is responsible: that poking bears invites retaliation. It’ll be America First, all right; first on the world’s list for storming beaches and fighting fascism - again.

I hate this man so much... the only person I hate more is donald trump. Ignorant assholes.... just GO AWAY!!!

Mary's avatar

Oh so typical of Hegseth and Trump...they are both low self esteem wannabe's that continue to embarrass this country! Why did Hegseth even show up?

Katy Bolger's avatar

I can't answer your question as to why Hogsbreath showed up for this ceremony but I would be willing to bet some Harriet Tubmans it had to do with booze and booze. He is quite likely taking a wine and champagne tour. Mark my words, he will be in France for a few days and make no more public appearances. Let's see.

Hegseth… bluck!

A lot of our soldiers fighting the Nazis were immigrants. Trumpists ARE Nazis.

I was no Kissinger fan, but….

Yes, Henry Kissinger did serve in World War II. As a Jewish refugee who fled Nazi Germany with his family in 1938, he was drafted into the U.S. Army after becoming a naturalized American citizen in 1943.His military service took a fascinating trajectory:Combat and Intelligence: Assigned to the 84th Infantry Division ("Rail Splitter Division"), he saw heavy combat and volunteered for hazardous duty during the Battle of the Bulge.Counterintelligence: Because he was fluent in German, he was reassigned to the Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) as a sergeant. In this role, he interrogated prisoners of war, identified German spies, and helped run denazification initiatives.

Ahhh… the good old days.

Mary Ann Yaeger's avatar

Thanks for the info on Kissinger's earlier life. I had never heard that before.

My history classes were limited to names & dates. I've learned so much more since I retired.

But we CAN get him (them) impeached

It is heartbreaking and it is disgraceful and embarrassing. The stupidity and callousness of both men is reprehensible.

"And then watching Pete Hegseth stand over the graves and turn the memorial into a sermon for the very thing their loved ones were killed fighting for. "

I suspect you meant "fighting against".

So many things wrong with the D-Day commemoration. The President can’t even be bothered to leave his bunker much less issue an appropriate statement. The needy man-baby can, however, issue memes praising himself and proclaiming how popular he is throughout the world, which is, of course, laughable. In place of the President, the Secretary of Defense, an empty suit if there ever was one, perverts the meaning of this solemn day to issue a screed about the evils of people with dark skin “infiltrating” countries of white people. One of the principal reasons that Hegseth is such a poor choice for Secretary of Defense is that he has no understanding of history and how it needs to inform our choices moving forward. All this moron can see is his Christo-fascist “ideology”. It’s a national embarrassment that he was placed in a position of authority and honor on this day, thus giving new meaning to the term ugly American
