He wasn't supposed to say this out loud

At his first full cabinet meeting since the war with Iran began, the President of the United States declared he might become president of Venezuela, spent five minutes telling the story of how he negotiated the price of a Sharpie, and then, unprompted, brought up the 25th Amendment. No reporter asked about it. No cabinet member raised it. He volunteered it himself, telling the room he couldn’t reveal his plans for Iran because “if I did, I wouldn’t be sitting here for long. They probably, what is it called, the 25th Amendment.” He couldn’t remember the name of the constitutional mechanism designed to remove a president who is no longer fit to serve. And then, minutes later, he nodded off while his own Defense Secretary briefed him on the war.

He described the Venezuela operation as “sort of like a joint venture,” confirmed the U.S. took 100 million barrels of oil in the first two weeks, and when a cabinet member said Venezuelans would build a statue of him, he interrupted to ask, “Forget that, when are they going to do the statue?” He called running Venezuela “a wonderful option” for his post-presidency. He spent the final stretch of the meeting defending his cognitive fitness to a room that hadn’t asked, insisting a screening test designed to detect impairment gets “really hard in the middle,” and admitting his own doctors warned him before taking it that if he did badly, “it’s probably going to get out.”

And then the Treasury Department announced that starting in June, Trump’s signature will appear on all U.S. paper currency, the first sitting president in American history to do so. To make room, they are removing the signature of the U.S. Treasurer, a position that has appeared on every bill since 1861. George Washington specifically refused to put his face on currency, calling it “monarchical.” Now, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of independence from a king, this president is stamping his name on every dollar in America. His approval has dropped to 36%. And the resistance keeps growing.
