Donald Trump's embarrassing UFC birthday bash on the White House lawn
A culmination of 80 years of extreme narcissism
This Sunday, on his 80th birthday, the President of the United States will host a UFC cage fight on the South Lawn of the White House. The same patch of grass where presidents have welcomed heads of state, where children roll Easter eggs, where the country has gathered to mark its hardest and proudest days. The event will cost at least $60 million. The most exclusive seats are going for between one and one-and-a-half million dollars a person. Crypto.com is a primary partner. Monster Energy and Bud Light will have their logos inside the cage. Trump himself bought stock in the company putting on the fight, a purchase that appears in his own financial disclosures. It was never a celebration of America. It is a business arrangement staged on public ground, a pay-per-view spectacle wrapped in the language of patriotism, with the People’s House as the backdrop to celebrate one man.
And the young soldiers being brought in are not there simply to watch. They had to meet height, weight, and fitness requirements because the organizers wanted a certain image for the cameras. Strong. Athletic. Uniform. They are being used as set dressing, asked to pay their own way to serve as scenery in a production designed to sell a particular vision of strength. But truly strong leaders do not need military montages, chants about warriors, or cage fights on public grounds to prove they are powerful. And the country is not asking for any of it. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that only 16 percent of Americans think it’s appropriate to hold these fights on White House grounds. Trump even compared the 92-foot steel tower being built on the lawn to the Eiffel Tower and said, “Maybe we’ll never ever take it down.”
But while the cage went up on one side of Washington, something else is coming down on the other. After losing in court and then again on appeal, both on the same day, crews raised scaffolding in front of the Kennedy Center to begin removing Trump’s name from the building he had illegally stamped it onto. People gathered to watch, cheering, “take it down.” And when his administration set up a tip line asking park visitors to report exhibits that said anything “negative” about America, tens of thousands wrote in and told the government to leave the truth where it stood. This Sunday, while the cameras stay fixed on the cage, people across the country will gather again for the No Kings protests. Not for Trump. But because showing up matters. Because every crowd makes it harder to sell the lie. And because this country belongs to all of us.

I find the event horrible, horrible, oh most horrible.
In 2020, Trump lost and sent a mob to the Capitol to keep power anyway.
