This morning, for the second day in a row, the President of the United States held a televised proclamation signing from inside the Oval Office. This event, just like the last, did not feature him standing or walking in, and for what seemed like good reason. As the cameras rolled, the focus quickly shifted away from the policy and proclamation and instead fell on him, because it was impossible to ignore his physical condition. And as much as we have grown accustomed to his erratic behavior, where some days he appears energetic and engaged, and other days he seems detached and distant, today felt different.
Heather, For me your finest moment tonight are: " I have been pushing myself to look deeper." and "Who exactly is running the country right now?" I am sure many of your followers can hardly wait for tomorrow's installment.

I know it takes time away from things you would probably rather be doing, and time away from your family to help us to know and under7 what is being done to our country, day after day. Heather, it's appalling that the orange Hitler is trying to ride roughshod over the American Constitution. I can't pretend to know the ins and outs of your laws, but isn't there some people in government to defy him; surely the right to free speech is enshrined in law?
What struck me about your post was your visit to the Reichstag in Berlin and the Memorial to the members of Parliament who opposed Hitler and were probably murdered. I had never heard this, despite the plethora of documentaries I've seen over the years. Who was it said that people who ignore history are destined to repeat it?
Thank you, Heather for waking us to the fact that Jamie Raskin was the recent target of Trump’s vitriol. He does not deserve it. He deserves our respect and gratitude for “hanging in there”. We are all so tired of this episode in US history. We are tired of the lies, the cruelty, the corruption and the chaos. Take a good look at the people standing behind Trump. They are tired of it too, especially Howard Lutnick. You can see it in his face. Good news though. I’m beginning to hear it in the voices of supposed Trump supporters too. Maybe the nightmare is beginning to come to an end.

Trump has a consistent pattern in his pronouncements where he trashes people whom he knows are far better than him. Calling Jamie Raskin a “loser for life” is typical Trump. On its face, this is a joke. Any person who has been paying even cursory attention to the world knows that Jamie Raskin is the antithesis of what Trump called him. Unimaginative and ignorant bully that he is, Trump has gone to the well far too many times with nonsense like this. His “powers” are slipping away and he knows it, which is why his behavior is becoming more desperate
We should have slabs of cast iron set in the ground for Renee Goode and Alex Pretti. Murder does not have a statute of limitation. Their killers should be brought to justice. Their birthdays are in my phone so every year I remember them. Renee April 2nd and Alex March 1st. Lest we forget how fragile life in America has become.
In this day and age of a technological sophisticated media, Trump cannot erase the history he is making. It will forever there for the generations that follow to read, to view, and to listen to.
I look forward to a change of administrations when the National Portrait Gallery again includes in the inscription under his portrait that he was twice impeached (maybe three times impeached).
I did not know that Jamie Raskin had endured so many tragic happenings in his life. I can relate to a certain degree because I too have had chemotherapy for a type of lymphoma, lost a son due to a tragic accident, lost my husband to cancer and have other medical challenges of my own. But to face all those obstacles and still continue his work in the public eye as a Congressman is beyond outstanding!
Heather, you are doing such important work blogging about out state of the union. We need you and people like you to keep us alert and fighting the regime every day. I will be re-stacking your post again, as I often do.
I spent two weeks in Berlin last month. Awareness of the heaviness of history seemed to overlay everything. I didn’t walk over to the Reichstag, but I did spend a long time at the Holocaust Memorial doing just as you did, Heather - contemplating. I observed the inlays in the pavement where the Wall had stood, and the commemorative nameplates in the pavement outside homes containing the names of the Jews who had lived there, along with where they were taken, and their eventual fates.
It is happening here. Those who are merrily following along with the continual antics in the White House are living in denial and/or ignorance and are in for a big surprise.
