He carefully made his way down the stairs, gripping the handrail tightly and watching each step before placing his foot. Once on the tarmac, Donald Trump grasped his hands together and broke into a huge grin as he greeted Turkish President Erdoğan. The two shared a brief private exchange before beginning the ceremonial walk toward a line of Turkish military personnel waiting for the official welcome.
As they walked along the blue carpet, Trump repeatedly drifted from side to side instead of following the path directly ahead. At one point, he grew increasingly disoriented and stopped altogether, staring into the distance. Erdoğan quickly reached beneath Trump's arm, redirected him back toward the carpet, pointed him in the direction they were headed, and continued guiding him forward until they reached the microphone. Still looking uncertain...

We can see it in the ways in which he posts his image on everything imaginable - the most glaring are those that are draped outside of the Departments of Justice, Agriculture, Labor and Interior. Not one of our former Presidents had ever even thought of doing something that was evident in countries like Soviet Russia, North Korea, etc.
At first glance that can be dismissed as ego-driven but taken in context with his far-reaching executive actions to take absolute control of everything in our country with abusive, intrusive edicts - we all should be sufficiently alarmed as to what this behavior portends for America.
OK, so if the sycophants around Trump can't get it together to stabilize our government, there is a race on between his continued deterioration inside his bubble, and the run-up to the mid-terms, in which overwhelming voter turnout will intervene from the real world to take back our democracy and country. What excuses will you accept from Democrats as to why this election just didn't quite turn out as well as we'd hoped, but definitely send them some money so they can do better next time? I have an alternative strategy for America, but it relies on people realizing that neither of the two parties is their friend. Remember that Democrats were the ones who let the power get this concentrated in the Executive, when that was the only way to get things done during the Clinton and Obama years. They bear as much of the blame for our current situation as the Republicans do, for failing to secure their base against Trump.
My strategy only works when there is significant existing political pressure on the State and Federal governments, as there is right now, in the lead up to midterms, in a year when an absurdly high percentage of seats in the state legislatures are up for re-election, when the entirety of America is politically united in looking to get out from under the thumb of our government. That's the kind of pressure it takes to ratify a Constitutional Amendment, and that's why we haven't managed to pass one of those in decades.
You have to decide. You, who are reading this, whoever you are. Keep playing the game and wait patiently until November to make your voice heard? Or act now to change the rules entirely during our one chance to do so, and ALSO vote in November?
Oh, it takes quite a lot, for sure! In fact, the DNC and RNC have, for the last several decades, made it *impossible* to gather the kind of support that would be required! Why do you imagine it is that every single social and economic issue that faces us—from tax policy, to reproductive rights, to social inclusion—has been divided so evenly in America, to within a few percentage points of each other? If you can't express any opinion without it being a "Democratic" opinion or a "Republican" opinion, you will always be excluding 50% of the electorate, and you'll never reach the much higher supermajorities that are required to do something about it.
If the Constitution is never amended, the D/R duopoly will never be broken.
Take a few minutes to think about when it was that you first learned the idea that "the US Constitution can't be amended in the modern day" you're subtexting here. Who was it who told you that? Did they owe any allegiance to either of the two major parties, whose dominance would be threatened by an amendment? NATO is a defensive alliance. Iran did not attack us. Our attack on Iran produced consequences for the rest of the world. It hurt our allies and it also hurt us by demonstrating to the rest of the world that the strongest military in the world could not subdue Iran. In fact, Iran inflicted significant damage on our Middle Eastern allies and our own military bases in the Middle East. We stupidly expended billions of dollars in sophisticated weapons that would be important in our defense against attack from China. The trillions we spent on NATO were for our defense as well as Europe’s. That money was not a gift! It was an investment in our defense and defense of the free world. Trump is cozying up to the leader in a NATO member whose President is most like Putin. Anyone can see that.

The description I read of their performance suggested a half hearted effort that might have been related to the reversal of the red card.
