Thank you especially for your appreciation of older Americans who are spending our last years watching our beloved country crumble into ruins. Some of us, like myself, are also the children of Holocaust survivors. We see all too clearly, the parallels with the Fascism of the 1930s.

I see Nov. 3 as our modern D day. Let's make it the beginning of a fight to save our country and Democracy from this attack from within. Our first great grandson will join us in the coming weeks, reminding me that keeping a Democracy is never easy. It's time to use our golden years to fight again. WE THE PEOPLE, can and will overcome these evil people and forces.

Kathryn’s right, Heather. It is a generous and empathic act to voice what our cohort is struggling with. There’s not much room for well-earned self-indulgence in these golden years. Not only must we find the power to do battle with the orange menace and his machine, but also must we proactively do what we can to improve the lives of our children. They are inheriting enormous burdens—environmentally, economically, and existentially. Anyway, thanks for remembering us.

I am 81 and planned to enjoy and appreciate this period in my life! I am devastated at what Donald Trump, the worst president, has done to our country, fully embraced by the most corrupt

Republicans and Supreme Court!

I am deeply concerned for my children and grandson!!

VOTE!

RepubliKKKans and especially, The Heritage Foundation Project 2025, Technofascists, EPSTEIN Class…all true EVIL.

I’m 75 years old. Marched in the streets to end the Vietnam war. I am now an old hippie hoping for peace and a country where my

children, grandchildren, and great grandchild can grow and enjoy a life free from all this chaos. I never thought anything like this would happen here. I only hope I can live to see us start to heal from these wounds that have been created by this con man and his cronies.

I am one of those elders and I don’t feel like I have sacrificed anything…not compared to my immigrant sisters and brothers. It is required, it is important, it is essential, being a citizen of this country, to stand up and fight for the rights of every human being to live in a world where all lives are valued equally.

I am crying right now, after reading about the plan to live stream an execution. Add to that all the people in concentration camps, especially the children, and it's just so depressing. This is not the place I want for my grandchildren.

Shelly Rellim M.'s avatar

Everything is pay-per-view in this sick society of gambling addicts, psychopaths, sociopathic, narcissistic Eugenics Deviants.

We are already being live streamed so to speak, as we are already under a Surveillance State. Of course we have crossed the Line that should scare the crap out of EVRYONE. They have been talking about public executions, which technically ICE Gestapo has already been doing and getting bonuses and betting and in the CONCENTRATION Camps betting for Suicides and whatever other Atrocities they are committing.

It was only a matter of time before live-streaming public executions….Technofascists owned Media, a generation of gamblers, deviant psychosexual, sadistic, Nazi, fascist, Eugenics, sociopaths. It will probably be Premium pay for in person seats, and the pay-per-view, which sadly…those MAGA/MAWA KKKult will love being a part of. Disgusting, vile, heinous.

Here is a recent article by Lance Rosen, and EXTREMELY IMPORTANT READ and SHARE.

Starting next month we expose him for who he truly is? Trump has been exposing himself his whole life, especially the last ten years. It’s a condemnation of the American voters that access hollywood and Jan. 6 weren’t enough to expose a depraved Trump. Americans are great normalizers, notice how his pedophilia is fading from our discourse. Were it not for the affordability crisis he created, there would be no prospect of a blue wave. Let’s not kid ourselves, we have been numbed into a shallow, self-serving electorate, and as the world sees the true Trump, they’ve also gotten a glimpse into us. Do we have the courage to introspect?

“It’s a condemnation of the American voters that access hollywood and Jan. 6 weren’t enough to expose a depraved Trump.”

It’s also a condemnation of the GOP Senators who confirmed Blanche, Lutnick, Patel, Kennedy, Noem, Bondi, Duffy, and Wright.

Even if you are an American with no interest whatsoever in politics and the outcome of this administration’s decisions, you need to pay attention to Doug Burgam, Secretary of Interior.

Burgam has decimated the National Park Service’s people, budget, and even our national parks by diverting money away from NPS for Trump‘s projects in the Washington DC area, including the Arch blocking the view of Lincoln Memorial from the Arlington Cemetery, where tens of thousands of the women and men who defended our country now sleep.

Thankyou, Heather. I love the idea of waking up one morning seeing that I don’t have to read about the latest abominable thing the Trump administration has done. Also, love that statue and Yay! for Jamie Raskin!

Not only is the regime trying to make it impossible to hire brilliant immigrants on the H-1B visa; they are also working diligently to make other employment-based learning opportunities off-limits to international students during their academic programs. CPT, which allows students to get work experience in their academic fields (think "internships"), is now being destroyed through informal messages from DHS, rather than by formal rule-making as required by law. Without this training option, many if not most students will seek enrollment in other nations. And our flow of brilliant scientists and engineers from abroad will be choked off at the beginning of the stream. I believe this is Steven Miller's fondest hope.

I spent 33 years as an international educator, trying to bring more of these wonderful students to the US, and now these fascists are trying to destroy the field to which I dedicated my life. Which is why now this 76 y.o. lady spends most of her time on politics -- everyone get out there and vote, as early as possible! I already did, Blue all the way.

I wouldn't change my grandchildren for the world, but I am trying to change the world for my grandchildren. Definitely not how I thought I would be spending my "golden years," but it must be done--for them.

I am one of those seniors Heather writes about today.

I was born in 1949 so I have lived through a lot of what our country has gone through…. We have experienced it together.

I have marched and protested for many things over many years but always…always in the back of my mind..in the deep parts of my heart and soul I KNEW..I FELT.. that the good I was standing up for would win because it’s right..it’s just..it’s fair..it’s truth. And ..it DID win. An unnecessary war ended in Viet Nam. The black citizens of our nation won the right to vote and have the equality they were guaranteed after a Civil War. Women gained financial freedom and workplace equality . Women were given the ability to make decisions themselves about their own bodies….(settled law by the way that trump’s court dismantled).

Everything I marched for..spoke out for..challenged..WON. It was exhausting at times but the wins were worth ALL of it.

I have never given up the idea that GOOD will triumph over EVIL and I haven’t given that up now…we are on the RIGHT side again against this evil lying HYPOCRITE CON and we will beat him to the ground and run him out of town.

Jamie Raskin is brilliant..his push to show us who and what this monster truly is is an absolute necessity so we never forget and we NEVER let his history repeat itself.

I love Robert Frost’s poetry…one poem in particular..The Road Not Taken which has been analyzed and it’s true meaning discussed by scholars and students since it first appeared. I love that poem especially the first line..” Two roads diverged in a yellow wood…”

For me…I have been satisfied by the roads I’ve taken..I have been able to look back on them with a sense of pride that my small contributions helped make a positive change. Now..as the number of my years behind me outnumber those of my years ahead …I will still choose the road towards truth..good..right..just ..with the same conviction …maybe a tad less energy ….. that they will triumph in the end because they MUST .

THAT will make all the difference.

As one of your many readers who is in my 70s and feeling "rightfully... pained and concerned" and sensing that I have not achieved the same "peace and quiet... promised in the later years of my life" because of the tinpot tyrant in the White House, I have to acknowledge the resentment my children's generation feels when they hear day-after-day that THIER tax dollars are underwriting my well-being and medical care when they may not have any comparable benefits when they are my age... and while I'd like to believe that taxing greedy billionaires is the answer, I can do the math and realize that I may have to forego some of my benefits if I hope to restore their faith in our government. Apart from Bernie Sanders, who DID tell his supporters that they would have to pay higher taxes to fund Medicare for All, no other politician has made that point. It is no surprise that Gen Z activists across the globe are looking for relatively affluent Boomers to either forego benefits or pay more to ensure their future is secure.

Another great article Heather. I just don't know how you do it.

Incidentally I did a quick Google search of Dr John Trump. He certainly had a distinguished scientific career and even aided the war effort before the DDay landings and was subsequently awarded several major honours. He has been more use to society than his nephew could ever claim to be.

I loved that statue outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Very appropriate.
